Alpine Slot Cars is proud to host the first Annual MOUNTAIN MAYHEM Retro Race!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!

PRACTICE: Friday, July 12
Doors open at 10 AM

RACE DATE: Saturday, July 13
Doors open at 8 AM
Tech for stock cars at 10 AM

IRRA RULES.

As many know, after Alpine Slot Cars relocated the iconic reverse King track, there was a bump on the front stretch in the black lane. This bump caused issues with Retro cars. No problem with Flexi cars. Alpine Staff have assured me that the issue has been repaired and resolved! Many laps with Retro cars have been run with no issues to report! No more worries.

We expect a good turnout for this race. With that said, we have decided that with an expected high turnout that four classes would take an extremely long time to get in. Therefore, weve decided to remove the F1 class to shorten the day in order to give an option of not having to pay a hotel bill if we can get done earlier! This would give time to drive home after the race.

Race order:
Stock Car on the huge Daytona Tri-Oval
Coupe on the reverse King
Can-Am on the reverse King

Weve got some great sponsors lined up so far for giveaways:

Brian Russo with AB Slot Cars
Alan Ingram with Boxes and Blocks
Terry Kelly with Kelly Racing
Nick Farris with SlotKraft Racing Products

Note: on Thursday, July 11, the track will be cleaned and reglued. That means a fresh green track for practice on Friday. Track conditions to start Saturday should be spectacular!!

Sounds good, Toby. I will give it a go.

As I recall the black and purple lanes had the bump that would lift Stock Cars and F1s out of the slot going down the main straight. If the track has been worked on and you are not running those classes on the King, it should be no problem.

I like the idea of three classes for the day, too. Trying to squeeze four classes into a day makes for a tiring day for us old farts.

I would like to donate a Retro chassis to give away at this race. Whoever wins the chassis just has to go on to my website and mention this race and I will build them whatever chassis they choose.

Have a lot of fun,

Best regards,

Jersey John

There is a Retro race in New Jersey the same day that tends to draw a pretty good field. It’s a shame you couldn’t have avoided double booking.

I'm making plans to be there!

I like the idea of dropping one race, too.  However, I would have preferred dropping the Can-Am because those cars are so similar to the GT Coupe.  Keeping the F1 would have meant having three significantly different Retro classes.

Alpine is a fantastic facility, throwing back to the days in our hobby when race centers were well-equipped and clean family fun centers.

Alpine seems to have it all: plentiful parking, proximity to food and lodging, good parts stock, and two world-class 8-lane routed tracks with great race director software.

Perhaps most important, Alpine has a friendly and inclusive atmosphere that I am certain that all of you visiting for the first time will appreciate.

That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten.

We had a warmup race in preparation for our 1st Annual Mountain Mayhem Retro Race today. After the tech was done, our tech man, Tony Powell, held a driver's meeting. He advised that the IRRA rules apparently had slightly changed regarding ride height in the rear to 0.050

After some discussion, it was decided that most everyone had set up to 0.047.*****UPDATE: WE WILL STAY AT .050!!

We had 14 drivers for a Can-Am warmup race today. A lot of locals and some newbies to retro racing. Had several out-of-towners come and play as well!! A great time was had by all!!! It went smoothly today. I’m expecting over 30 drivers for this event!! Get 'em ready, boys.

Great turnout for this race. We had 23 drivers for stock car before I had to head home.

Congratulations to Toby and everyone involved in making the race a big success.

I drove up for about four hours, mostly to meet a bunch of old friends and put some faces on names I already knew.

Terrific turnout, actually. I left during GT Coupe, which I had, I believe, 25 entries.

I know there were attendees from Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. I'm sure there were a few other states represented, too.

They sure have more pit space than any raceway I've seen in over 50 years.

Alpine downsized earlier in the year as I recall.

Thanks to everyone that attended this event! We ended up with 73 entries for all 3 classes and started racing at 10am and finished about 10 minutes before midnight.

We really had to move the event along to get it completed in one day, so next retro event will likely be split over 2 days.

We had a blast!

I will try to post some results here later once they have been put on Alpine Raceways website.

We will also post some dates for the next race as well as dates for the Frostbite Classic III likely in February 2025
