I wanted to build a slot car of the American Graffiti police car for years. Early four-door Ford models are fairly rare. After years of searching, I found a used Hubley model that is close enough to the movie car. The model car was hand-painted red. The red paint was stripped off and the side chrome trim was sanded off. New paint was applied, and Modesto Police decals were found. The lights and hubcaps are from a Fire Chief model car kit. The figures were made from soldier figures.
The running gear consists of a new International brand chassis and a Kemtron motor. Gears are Weldun and tires are urethane.
The car drives nicely and does not tilt in the corners. No, the rear end does not pull out.

Hi Rodney,
To me, it looks to be an excellent recreation of the movie car!
Thanks for sharing Rodney!

Believe or not in 2008 downtown Petaluma I watch the reenactments of this stunt.
Rodney, all that left to do now is do a slot car reenactment of that scene.
Maybe the drag race scene is a little less destructive. Oops that's right the 55 crashed hard in that one.
They did that one in Petaluma too but I did not see that reenactment.
I think they did not want spectators (just filmed) so it was not advertised.
