It's been a while since The Doghouse gang was able to convene for another friendly race day, but we finally gathered on Saturday, June 22.

On this particular Saturday, we chose to race our Vintage Flexi cars. In other words...old stuff. Speaking of old stuff, it was the usual cast of characters:

Racers.jpg

L to R: Dr. Bob Feller, Eric Prevost, Richard Sylvester, Dan Parker, Dr. Marty Cwiakala, Bob Arneson, and yours truly, Jim Beasley.

We always enjoy getting together for a "friendly" race, along with a bit of trash talking. As for the Vintage Flexi cars of choice, there were specifically two models in use on this day: the Parma Flexi-2 and the JK Turbo Flex. Both chassis performed really well, and some of the times were remarkably fast. They were so fast, in fact, that they've totally slipped my mind. Still, the cars looked great:

Starting from the back row, L to R: Marty, Dan, Eric, and Jim. Second row: Dr. Bob and Bob A. with Richard in the front. (We let him put his car up front. It's his house, his track. We humor him sometimes.)

Our format is three races, with each car running one time on each of the four lanes. Seven racers, seven heats in each race. We took the total of the best two out of three races to determine the winner.

On this day, Richard had too much speed and control for the rest of us, but Dan was a close second. It was a good racing day for Dan "Rocky the Flying Squirrel" Parker, if I say so myself:

Congrats to Richard and to Dan. In fact, congratulations all around. We all had a great time on another hot Saturday in South Carolina.

We'll do it all again in July, but using our retro F1 cars. Stay tuned.

These look like fun cars to run & they stir old memories. I still have parts for both chassis. My kids used to run Flexi 2s & I ran the Champion (bought out by Parma) Turbo Flexes. Unfortunately, the last local commercial raceway closed in 2010.

Sorry to hear that, Bill. Richard's track is a 75-foot four-lane track that we love. And these old flexis are really fast and fun to run. The lap timer was frequently telling us we were setting new track records for that class. Conditions were perfect.

But most of all, I'm really glad Richard was able to fix the air conditioner in the garage to make space more comfortable.

Poor man's retro racing, that's what I call it. Throw a retro body on a Turbo Flex and let her eat.

I’ve been restoring my childhood race turbo flex’s from the early 00’s. they run really good when nice and straight/flat.

...they run really good when nice and straight/flat.

That's the secret! That, and following Cheater's tome for the Turbo-Flex. The concepts work on any flexi chassis and makes every one of them better.
