So, after all the dust settled after the great turnout at the Mountain Mayhem I at Alpine Slot Cars, I’ve got a few things to say.

First and foremost, I hope everyone got home safe and sound. Unfortunately, not everyone got there and home without any carnage. One of the racers was driving from their hotel room to get breakfast, and a deer jumped out and ran into their car, which had significant damage. The front fender was pushed into the front door and could not open, so they had to climb over the seat to get in and out. No one was hurt, but the deer wasn’t so lucky.

I will continue with my experience and story of this magnificent slot car raceway and event.

John and his family have one of the best slot car tracks I’ve been to. I have been to no less than 100 tracks throughout the country for many years. The people at Alpine all care for all their customers, want to make sure they are as comfortable as possible, and aim to please all. They always had a smile on their faces all day long. They kept walking around asking if there was anything they could do to help or if needed. They asked me several times. Kind of like a server at a restaurant. Lol.

They have a ton of walk-in track rentals. They are there to turn marshal every time they sell rental time. They don’t just give them the car and controller and say there’s the track. They actually take the time to explain how it works and what turns are the trouble spots.

Now, on to some personal thank you's:

John Fitzgerald: You’re an amazing track owner. I can see you truly love doing what you do. Your track shows that. Your little heaven slice is the gold pot at the racer's rainbow's end.

Jimmy; thank you for your professionalism in marshaling all weekend. You not only liked to do it, but you were on fire putting those cars back in. You also always had a smile on your face.

John’s dad is also a great person to talk with. I really enjoyed talking with him. No, I’m not calling him old, but I really love talking with older people than I am. I love listening to their stories. I hope his upcoming health issue is cured soon.

John Smith; thank you for the help with setups. Even though I didn’t race well. I wish I could have raced as well as my practice was. It’s just the nature of the beast.

Terry Tawney, thank you for your help this past weekend. You are truly a master of this hobby we all love and travel to.

Last but most definitely not least but mostly more importantly... save the best for last!!!

Roger Schmitt and Mid-America slot car Products… your help is greatly appreciated. Most racers don’t know half of what you do for this hobby/sport.

When I arrived, the folks at Alpine greeted me like they’d known me for years. They asked me how my trip to get there was. Right off the bat, John asked me if he could do anything for me. I really can’t say enough good things about my time there. It was just a pleasure being there.

Now, I did tell them I was upset at the end of the race on Saturday evening. John looked at me like he was very surprised to hear I was upset. I said it was so pleasant to be there because I didn’t want this weekend to end.

It was nice to race against some of the best racers you can. There was ZERO drama or issues the entire weekend. Everyone was friendly with everyone. Everyone helped out someone who was struggling. Such a great time.

If you are ever in the NE corner of Georgia or anywhere in Atlanta, do yourself a favor and stop by this track. You’ll thank me later.

I was glad to meet some new people I’ve never met but only talked with or communicated with on Facebook. I'm glad to call you all friends.

Brian Russo
What is there to say about Greg Mckenna? Thank you for your help.

Again, I had such a great time at the race this past weekend. I genuinely am looking forward to racing there again. If you missed this race, you definitely missed one of the most fun races in the country.

I had a great time at the premier Mountain Mayhem race and what an awesome facility, one of the best I've ever seen.

Super job by the track staff, John Fitzgerald., Aaron Davis, and Toby Hammonds (who did some awesome race directing).

Also thanks to Terry Kelly and Tony Powell for setting up this race which was one of the best I've been to in a long time.

I'm looking forward to the next race for sure.

Hopefully, this will be one of the faces of our hobby's future.

This great young man is a joy to be around and race with. He has been doing this for a very short time and proven that he has Crazy Talent!

This was his first "big race" and, other than a warm-up a few weeks ago, his first real Retro racing.

If you're a manufacturer looking for a young talent to help, you should reach out to him.

The last "kid" I remember seeing with this much talent was an 11-year-old Justin Colvin.

Congratulations, Nate Brannen!

What a special weekend. I made an online friend quite some time ago and finally got to see him racing slot cars at Alpine Slot Cars. Mr. Brian David Russo, you are a class act my friend!!

This was my favorite time at a slot car track, and I didn’t even race! The 1st Annual Mountain Mayhem Retro Race was an absolute success. I got to meet some great racers like Brian Ambrose, John Smith, and many more.

We had great sponsors… too many to list! We had a great turnout.

Terry Kelly helped house some folks and provided give-aways! John Fitzgerald, Jimmy Rosell, and Aaron Rocco Davis were unbelievably busy hosting two big races on one day. I had several slot car buddies show up to support the race!

Nick Farris was struggling in practice but pulled it together to put on a great show as always!

Nate Brannen was an absolute MONSTAAA all day! He picked up the DUB overall.

Greg Mckenna is everyone’s favorite! He keeps everyone smiling!!

Teddy Hoots made the trip and even run one of my stock cars and did super good!! Too many folks to list right here but a great time was had by all!!

The real winner of the day was Rtero racing in general!!! What a great time I had personally, though!! It was all I thought it would be and then some!!!

It was a long day, but I’m ready to do it again… this time with a controller in my hand instead of a microphone!!!

Marcia and I had a great time until we met the unfortunate deer.

We are unhurt and all is well, but I felt like we had to head home after the Stock Car race in order to get my one-eyed car home before dark. It was a safe trip and the car is now in the body shop. Hoping insurance does not total it.

Thanks to everyone involved for putting on a great event. I will definitely be back for the next one, and for the Frostbite Classic Retro race, too.

It must be something the deer in this part of the country have in common. We have to be especially careful after dark in our neighborhood because the local deer are fearless and clueless at the same time.

We have the same type clueless deer all over our neighborhood as well, but I had to drive all the way to Helen to hit one. What's up with that.  :)
