Coupes on the Aristocrat – 7/16/24

Coupes were back in action on the American Aristocrat in the MVH Tuesday Night Retro series this week with nine drivers entered in the event. Racing was in the 4-on/5-off format, running the outside four lanes and then moving to the inside four. One racer ran the computer with four marshals on the corners.

Once again, other than first place, there was close racing throughout the field. There were also a fair number of pauses in the action to repair gears, replace bent wheels, solder loose pans, and the like. Amazingly, all nine drivers finished the race, though it was a late night at the raceway!

By the midpoint of the race John Weaver held a nine-lap lead over Dave Panich and Woody Hazelwood who were tied with 138 laps each. Rolly Lapierre Jr. was running in fourth, five laps back, with Cody Pare trailing by two at 131 laps. In the race for sixth place, Dan Savage and John Esposito were tied with 127 laps each. Joe Yates and Richard Payne were also tied in the race for eighth, each with 123 laps.

The second half of the race was sure to resolve the three ties, but Weaver wasn’t challenged, taking the win by fourteen laps. The battle between Dave and Woody went Woody’s way as Dave couldn’t keep his car in the slot on yellow (or white). Cody had a good second half, slipping past Rolly to take fourth place by less than a lap. Espo drove away from Dan to claim sixth on his way to posting the fourth fastest lap of the night. Dan, on the other hand, ended up in a close race with Richard for seventh, ultimately taking the postion by one track section. Joe closed out the field.
