[Twisted Metal]

Retro racers...

 

We will be hosting the 7th Annual Southern Retro Rumble this year at Fast Eddie's Slot Cars & Raceway in September.

 

You are not going to want to miss this year's event with action on both tracks and some of the best racers in the country.

 

 

Below is a schedule for the days of practice and races.

 

Sept 19 Thursday - Practice

Doors open at 2 PM and close at 9:30 PM.

 

Sept 20, Friday - Practice

Doors open at 11 AM. 

If we have enough interest, we will run a 4.5" Stock Car race on the Hillclimb track for fun at 9 PM.

 

Sept 21, Saturday - Doors open at 8 AM.

GT Coupe qualifying at noon on the 154' Ogilvie Hillclimb track, race to follow.

Retro Stock Car qualifying 4:30 PM on the 126' Ogilvie tri-oval, race to follow qualifying.

 

Sept 22, Sunday - Doors open at 8 AM. 

Can-Am qualifying 10:30 AM on the 154' Ogilvie track, race to follow qualifying.

Formula 1 qualifying at 3 PM on the 154' Ogilvie Hillclimb track, race to follow qualifying.

 

Entry fees will be $20 for each class and a $15 pit pass on Sat and Sun. Lunch will be provided on both days.

 

If you're not familiar with the area... there are plenty of hotels and food venues within a five-mile radius of the raceway. We are working with a couple of local hotels on discounted rates; more information will be provided later.

This race has been on my radar screen for the last two to three months. I have raced in Florida for 10 years prior to moving back to my hometown of Canton, Ohio. So, I am looking forward to attending this race and meet the many racers that I ran with all those years.

 

Ed Hoffman's raceway is top notch; the tri-oval is very tricky and the Hillclimb is the best one that I have raced on.

 

Also, DZ's offer to help anyone who ask for it is genuine. I know that he has helped me many times. You just got to ask.

 

Having said all that, now I have to figure out how to beat Jay Guard!

After all... it was once referred to as 'the fastest Hillclimb in the south!'

 

And the exit of the deadman is much better than when the track was in Jacksonville.

The Quality in was a basic no-thrills hotel. I slept fine there last year. It was quiet.

I also stayed at the Quality Inn last year. As Brandon said, basic but nice and quiet. It appeared to have been renovated within the last few years. It's located just behind a RaceTrac gas station and there's a Waffle House just a two-minute walk from your room.

This was a great race and it was like a homecoming for me. I got to meet up with many old friends from when I raced slot cars in Florida (I live there for 11 years). 

 

Great event, I want to thank Ed Hoffman from putting on such an awesome event. Lots of fast guys and very close racing.

 

My most favorite race was racing side by side with the "Kid" (Nathan Picket) in the stock car race. Good memories for sure.
