Every race is a little different, but this was another great day for retro cars on the finest club venue most of us have ever seen.

Garrett Sisk came for the first time in 2 years, and brought Chance Overholt, a long-time Tri-Cities racer.  Chance is opening a new race facility somewhere in or near Kennewick, WA, hopefully within the next couple of months.  They plan weekly races for locals and some monthly races on weekends, hoping for a wider audience.

The last time Garrett came, he swept all four classes by an average of 7 laps each.  He was a winner today as well, but competition was a little tougher, as you can see.

We had 11 racers and enjoyed at least a couple of spectacularly close races.

First up, stock cars on the red track

1. Garrett Sisk                 148 laps, 4.27 best lap

2. Robert Clements         145, 4.47

3. Leroy Saunders           145, 4.48

4. Chance Overholt          140, 4.42

5. John Wimett                 136, 4.65

6.  Tom Sunday                130, 4.73

7.  Ken Bryan                   130, 4.82

8.  Paul Dwyer                  129, 4.70

9.  Tim Robertson             125, 4.81

10.  Dennis Tando             105, 5.38

11.  Larry Flyn                     94, 6.12

So it was already clear that Garrett would be hard to beat, but was within range, and Chance would be competitive in his first races here.  So from there we moved to the blue track for formula cars.  Once again, the race came down to a duel between Garrett and Robert, with the same 3-lap margin of victory for Garrett.  But look at the battle for 3rd place, which included a 3-way tie, with 3 others close behind.

1. Garrett Sisk                 122 laps, 5.22 best lap

2. Robert Clements         119, 5.50

3. Ken Bryan                    113, 5.65                   Look at this grouping:  6 racers within 3 laps

4. Paul Dwyer                   113, 5.29

5. Tom Sunday                 113, 5.52

6.  John Wimett                112, 5.70

7. Leroy Saunders           111, 5.58

8. Chance Overholt          110, 5.55

9.  Tim Robertson             104, 5.59

10.  Dennis Tando             84, 6.80

11.  Larry Flyn                    80, 6.91

After a great lunch of deli sandwiches and huckleberry ice cream provided by our hosts, we delved into the third race, Can Am cars back on the red track.  Same 2 lead drivers, same 3 lap victory when the dust settled.  But beneath the battle of the titans, we had our 3rd different 3rd place finisher.

1. Garrett Sisk                 154 laps, 4.17 best lap -- this may be a course record for this track, but I didn't have time to go back and check

2. Robert Clements         151, 4.37

3. Chance Overholt          146, 4.30

4. Leroy Sanders              143, 4.37

5. John Wimett                 140, 4.61

6.  Tom Sunday                138, 4.38

7.  Ken Bryan                   133, 4.66

8.  Paul Dwyer                  123, 4.66

9.  Tim Robertson             122, 4.61

10.  Dennis Tando             109, 5.19

11.  Larry Flyn                     90, 5.89

The final race of the day was coupes.  So the questions were:

* Would Garrett Sisk sweep the field like last year?

Can we have another tie for the last podium slot?

*And finally, would the racing be as close as the other one on the blue track?

The answers are:

No, Robert would manage to out-duel Garrett on the last race of the day.  The two of them finished 1-2 in every class, but Robert prevented the sweep.

Yes.  On the other race on this track, Paul, Ken, and Tom S. would all tie for 3rd, but I won the tiebreaker.  And on this race, Paul and I tied again.

and yes, the racing would be equally close.

1. Robert Clements          123, 5.34

2. Garrett Sisk                  121 laps, 5.47

3. Ken Bryan                    120, 5.57

4. Paul Dwyer                  120, 5.41

5. John Wimett                117, 5.54

6. Tom Sunday                115, 5.44

7. Leroy Sanders             114, 5.50

8.  Chance Overhold       111, 5.50

9.  Tim Robertson             108, 5.67

10.  Dennis Tando             87, 6.63

11.  Larry Flyn                   71, 7.02
