Formula 1 on the King – 7/30/24
F-1 visited the Gerding G7 King for the second time this month in the 7/30/24 edition of the MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series. Once again, a field of seven took to the track in the 4-on/3-off format running over 14 heats with the lead-on marshal also running the track call button.
Cars in Tech:
On this evening, as on most Tuesdays, John Weaver had the speed and the lead from the start. The battle for second was the closest race of the night, with Ray Lee and Rob Hayes turning almost identical lap times and separated by just one lap at the move to the inside lanes. Meanwhile, Weaver’s 169 laps put him in first by a more-than-comfortable ten laps. In fourth place, Rolly Lapierre Jr. was running by himself with 154 laps, four laps down to Rob and four laps up on Joe Yates. Dan Savage and Richard Payne closed out the field with 143 and 140 laps respectively.
The second half saw Weaver open his lead over Ray to eighteen-plus laps while Ray drove away from Rob to take second place by seven laps. Joe came on strong on the inside lanes but ended up one lap behind Rolly and had to settle for fifth place.
Weaver logged the fastest lap of the evening with a 4.054 on white, with Ray just slightly slower at 4.116.
Overall Finishing order, laps completed, best lap time, best lap lane:
- John Weaver 339/20 4.054 WT
- Ray Lee 320/33 4.116 BL
- Rob Hayes 313/4 4.281 OR
