Do something fun! Of course to you, something fun might be welding up a bundle of snakes exhaust but who am I to judge.
Happy birthday, Martin!

How can you not have a good day with friends like you guys.
And it looks like I got knighted too. Thanks Pablo. any time.
Not to mention Wizard status, thanks Dave, but I am really just an old fabricator that still loves making stuff.
70, that is a lot of dam candles Bill, but we kept it simple and just did the cake and ice cream. Hate the taste of wax anyway
Yes ,I did take the day off from metal fab, felt a bit guilty at that. Thank you Larry and all, for the thoughts, this made my day even more special

Being a fabricator is a rare talent very few of us has. Taking nothing and making something of it, that is really special. And we have several of those "wizards" right here on this site. What an honor to be part of that.

Dave, your comment makes me wonder how the involvement and influence of slot cars change the direction of our lives.
I feel lucky to have grown up at a time where if you wanted something that was not manufactured or you could not afford, you just had to make it yourself.
Having a passion to visualize something and then make it come to life is a gift I will always be grateful for.
Would love to hear other peoples stories of how slot cars influenced their lives, I know for me building slot car chassis and studying the designs to understand what made them go fast was the base for all that came after my teenage years.

Slot racing was just one of the influences we had as kids. My reactions and hand-eye coordination were never spectacular, so to win races I had to build a better car. That "mantra", if you can call it that, also pushed me to learn to weld at an age when most kids were playing Little League. We had to build our own go-karts and mini-bikes. My family were far from rich, and we lived in a low income part of town.
You and I, and I suspect a large contingent of others who patronize this site, grew up the same way. Material things didn't come easy. That is why we hold on to them so long. I have an old wooden produce box full of slot cars, most of which were duds on the track. I cannibalized most of them for parts for other builds, but I held on to what was left. In today's throw-away world, people don't do that anymore. Once we are done with it, it heads for the land-fill.
And that is sad. It shows we have lost our respect for history. So as Spock said, "live long and prosper". Have all the birthdays you want.

Slot cars have influenced my life since 1970. A fine hobby to give an excuse to travel from Finland to Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy and get friends from all over the World. A great brotherhood!

That was the same for me...
