Hopefully, this can be answered by a simple yes or no.

I understand the wording on: the bottom of the chassis cannot be bowed.

The question is: If I insert the steel rail into a brass tube (round or square) to aid in soldering, technically, the bottom is no longer flat. It's flat as opposed to sagging in the middle, but it's also stepped.

Did I explain that clearly and concisely? A little more to it than explaining that the earth is flat.

There are many Retro chassis with a steel rail inside of a brass tube. The bottom of the chassis is still flat though. :)

Mike is absolutely correct. This is a good example of what he mentioned in his post.

The brass tubes in this example are stepped in relation to the wire, but they're in the same flat plane with the other parts of the chassis. In other words, the tubes don't hang below the pans, rails, etc.

Mark, you're overthinking this.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure if I'm thinking at all. However, when someone told me that carbon fiber is acceptable for rails, I began to wonder if my perception of the English language is still functional.

The main reason is, I didn't want to continue with it if I thought it might be a issue.

He (Dan) didn't say that carbon fiber was being used as the rails. He said that it was being used somewhere on the chassis. Until we see one of these chassis, we don't know for sure where it's being used.

We also don't know if the carbon fiber is just an experiment that maybe won't pan out, or maybe the IRRA rules will disallow it.

As Pablo would say... "We shall see".  :D

I will go back and look at the rules but I don't think carbon fiber is going to be allowed in a 60s style chassis.

IRRA rules Chassis rule 2 A. Carbon fiber is not allowed.

Mark heard someone make a remark Tuesday night about someone using carbon fiber to build a retro chassis. I also heard the remark and added my understanding of what I heard.  I guess you could call carbon fiber a "red herring" in this topic.  :laugh2:

I didn't want to name names. It did leed to my re-reading the rules. And that is what lead me to this question. Just wanted to clarify that I still have some cognitive activity in my brain.
Now, let me explain why the earth is flat.......

And believe it or not, you're continually adding new data to your cognitive skills every waking hour. Your eyes, ears, nose, & mouth do more than just make your face look pretty.  :laugh2:  :laugh2:

Yes that would be ok.

In my opinion

But my opinion does not count.

Everyone's opinion counts!!!

Thanks for your input, everyone. If you can get one person to laugh every day, you have accomplished something.
