HOSCAR

September 11th

We're back!

It was a good turnout for the season opening event at Fantasy Raceways. Twelve racers showed up with their Nostalgia and TFX Class cars hoping for podium finishes.

9-11-24 HOSCAR group.jpg

L-R: Roger Townley, Steve Dickinson, George Vianco, Tony Gianforte, Dave Failing, Rick Kibler, John Voellenger, Ralph Thieleman, Bob Dickinson, John Peckham, Jeff Eve.

First up was the Nostalgia race. Slight tweaks to the rules for this Class created some interest in seeing how the performance of the cars might change. The impact was difficult to gauge as being the first race after a long layoff the driving wasn't up to our usual standards for the first few Heats. After everyone settled in, I can't say there was any noticeable difference in the cars from last year. There was certainly no difference in who the top dog was. 2023-24 Grand Champion Dave Failing started the season where he left off, on top of the podium. He struggled a bit on the Blue lane but still managed to hold off Steve Dickinson to take the first win of the year. A lap and a half behind Steve was Rich Joslin in third. Jeff Eve and John Peckham completed the top five.

TFX was called to the starting line next. In this one Rich turned the most laps on Green, Orange, Blue and Yellow to claim the win over Dave. In his first race with the group in a long time, it was John Voellenger taking the third spot on the podium. Rounding out the top five were Tony Gianforte and Bob Dickinson.

A big thank you to our host, Jeff Eve. The first race of the season was smooth sailing from start to finish.

The group travels to Seabreeze Speedway next Wednesday for more HOSCAR racing action. Stay tuned.

Nice report Rich. Congratulation on getting two podium positions the same night, Are these cars factory painted, user painted, or a little of both?

Thank you Bill.

There is a combination of factory painted, user painted and/or user detailed with decals. Several of the guys do nice work, but the stuff Steve Dickinson (Small Scale Replicas) and Dave Failing do, stands out.

HOSCAR

September 18, 2024

The scribe has some catching up to do. Sorry for the delay.

Seabreeze Speedway was the venue for IROC and E-Fray racing action this week.

E-Fray was called to the starting line first. There was some nice close racing in this one with the top dogs flirting with the track record for this class. Steve Dickinson and Dave pushed each other along throughout the race. With both on the track for the final heat we were expecting an exciting finish, and we got it. When the power turned off and the coasting stopped it was Dave with the win by inches.

Just a couple of laps off of the pace was Rich Joslin in third.

Going from fast to slow this week, Dave brought out the Ford Fairlanes for the IROC race. Racing these is always a lot of fun and this time was no different. Lots of laughs and close racing too. What more could we ask for? Once again it was Steve locked in a close battle, this time with George Vianco. At the finish it was George in front by just a section or two for the win. Third place was also decided by track sections with Roger Townley edging out Dave for the final podium position.

Thank you to our hosts, Tracy and Dave. It was another great evening of HOSCAR racing.

HOSCAR

September 25, 2024

For the first time in the new season the HOSCAR group visited Pattiland International Raceway. With the weather being so nice we only had seven racers in attendance but George had everything in great shape for those who made it this week.

TFX and Wide-Skinny were the featured races. TFX was up first. With a one lap edge on each of the three lanes it was Steve Dickinson cruising to a comfortable win. For second place it was Rich Joslin barely staying in front of Roger Townley in third.

The Wide-Skinny results were a little closer, but the order of finish at the top remained the same. This time Steve ended with a two lap advantage over Rich, who managed to hold off third place finisher, George.

Thank you to our hosts Patti and George for letting us play with our cars in their basement.

Stay tuned next week when Steve's new track debuts on the HOSCAR circuit at Small Scale Replicas.

HOSCAR

October 2nd, 2024

Another light attendance week for the group, but those able to attend were treated to the HOSCAR debut of Steve Dickinson's "Scrap Track." Drivers skills would be tested this week with Nostalgia and SS E-Fray classes on the schedule.

After a bit of practice, as some had never seen scrappy before, Nostalgia was called to the starting line. This was a very close race with only one lap separating the top three finishers. Steve, Dave Failing and Roger Townley were engaged in a tight race from start to finish. None of them could put much distance between the other two. At the finish it was Steve and Dave on the same lap, in that order, just track sections apart. Less than a lap behind them was Roger in third place.

SS E-Fray was up next. While fun, this one was not so close. Steve ran away from the field posting a very comfortable five lap victory to make it a sweep of the evening's events. In second place was Rich Joslin. Dave made his second podium of the night, taking third place in this one.

It was a fun evening of racing at Small Scale Replicas. The response to Scrap Track was positive. It is a nice combination of technical and speed. I'm sure the group will enjoy many future races on the layout.

Thank you to our hosts Jamie and Steve. Thank you to their son Quentin for helping us out as a marshal.

HOSCAR

October 30, 2024

My apologies to the HOSCAR group for not posting the last couple of weeks. I will pick up here and try to stay on schedule the rest of the season.

Nine members showed up at Pattiland International Raceway for Nostalgia and E-Fray racing action. George Vianco had the venue in top shape for the group.

Changing things up a bit, we raced E-Fray first. From start to finish the racing was hotly contested and close. When the smoke cleared it was our host, George at the front of the pack. Steve Dickinson was less than a half a lap back, in second place. Roger Townley claimed the final spot on the podium just several track sections out of second place. Rounding out the top five were Rich Joslin and Dave Failing respectively. The top five were separated by just over one lap.

Next up was the Nostalgia class. While not as close top to bottom as the E-Fray race, this one had some great battles too. Steve Dickinson separated himself from the rest of us to win by a couple of laps. For second place the race came down to track sections as Dave and George finished on the same lap. It was George with the edge for his second podium of the night. The contest for fourth and fifth was a tie as Roger and Rich both finished with fifty-one laps, and twenty track sections.

It was a night of great racing for the HOSCAR group. Thank you to our hosts, Patti and George Vianco for the pleasure.

HOSCAR

November 13th, 2024

John Peckham's, Greenbrier Raceway Park was the scene for the latest HOSCAR racing action. Ten members were in attendance to compete in the Nostalgia and E-Fray classes. John had everything in good condition for the group and the racing was interesting as always.

Nostalgia cars were called to the starting line first. Dave Failing got off to a good start and managed to stay consistent from lane to lane. As the only driver to tally three, nineteen lap heats, he cruised to a nice three lap margin of victory. Racing for the remaining podium positions was heated. Bob Dickinson, Steve Dickinson, Rick Kibler and Roger Townley all had a shot. At the finish it was Steve's nineteen laps on Blue that separated him from Bob by one lap for second place. Bob stayed just a lap in front of Rick and Roger, who finished fourth and fifth respectively.

E-Fray was up next. It was Steve and Dave leading the way again. This time with three, twenty-two lap heats it was Steve atop the podium by less than a lap over Dave. With a solid drive throughout capped off with a twenty-three lap heat on Yellow, it was George Vianco in third place. Rich Joslin and Bob completed the top five in this one.

HOSCAR

November 20, 2024

The fast, six lane, Fantasy Raceways track was the sight of HOSCAR racing action this week. Eleven drivers brought their best Wide-Skinny and TFX cars to be put to the test against their peers. Our host, Jeff Eve had everything in good shape for the group and after a little practice time we were ready to get started.

Wide-Skinny would race first. Dave Failing's Camaro was the only car to break the eleven second lap mark. Dave used that speed and some skillful driving to claim the win. Just behind the leader was a Torino duel between the cars of Steve Dickinson and Roger Townley. They finished less than one lap apart with Steve taking second place and Roger third. Rich Joslin and Jeff Eve complete the top five.

Next up was the TFX class. in this one Dave took control and never looked back, cruising to a comfortable three lap margin of victory. In second place was Rich by a couple of laps over Steve. Tony Gianforte claimed fourth place with Bob Dickinson rounding out the top five.

HOSCAR

November 27, 2024

It's a small miracle that Dave Failing's wife, Tracy, allowed the HOSCAR group to play with cars in the basement while she worked hard preparing Thanksgiving dinner for the next day. It's also a small miracle that nine others managed to sneak out of their houses on Thanksgiving eve to join Dave for the fun of Nostalgia and Wide-Skinny racing.

As the Nostalgia cars were called to the starting line the smell of good cooking were just starting to permeate the Seabreeze Speedway surroundings. Steve Dickinson completed the four lane circuit posting a solid one-hundred six lap total. A few heats later Rich Joslin would match that mark just a few sections short of Steve's finish. As the heats progressed the only question was, would our host shake up the podium. Dave stumbled a bit on yellow, his second heat, posting twenty-five laps which knocked him just off the pace of the leaders. Twenty-seven laps on red got him back in the hunt. Then a stellar twenty-nine laps on white, a full two laps more than anyone else propelled him to the top by less than a lap. It was a great finish to a race that saw the top three within a lap of each other. The race for fourth through sixth was also a doozy as those three places were separated by just one lap too. It was Tony Gianforte, Bob Dickinson and George Vianco in that order, despite what the results show below.

By the time the Wide-Skinny race was starting it was full blown Thanksgiving feast smell in the basement. The wonderful odor of made from scratch stuffing had many of us anxious for something to eat. First things first, though, we had a race to complete. While not as close as the Nostalgia race this was a good one too. Dave took the honors again. This time it was Roger Townley in second place followed by Rich, once again, in third. Bob and George completed the top five.

Thank you to our hosts, Tracy and Dave. I bet that dinner was delicious!

That's four wins in a row for Dave. Will he continue the streak next week at Pattiland International Raceway? Stay tuned.
