Cool! Camping and racing!

:sun_bespectacled:

Will stock car bodies from all decades be eligible, e.g 1940's up to the present? Will there be a concours contest?

Here are the results of yesterday's race..

20241026 Misfits Hardbody.png

It was a real blast, and featured some really tough racing.. Bud Greene prevailed at the end, just a little ahead of a hard-charging Ben Cheney. They both exchanged offs late in the last heat, which provided for a thrilling finish!

Super good racing & great fun!!

Well, it's over and we have to admit a great time was had by all!

We had fourteen entries representing Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. We even had visitors from Sweden!

The company was great, the food was superb, and the race, oh, what a race! At the end, Bud Greene of Alabama won the event ever so closely over the Pit's own Ben Cheney. Each of the two drivers swapped leads until late in the final heat, when both had offs, and Bud took the win!

Third place was the Pit's Wayne Thomas, who drove a great recovery race after falling behind early. We should also mention the B main podium, featuring the Pit's Kirby Palm and Hugh Hampton (respectively, 4th and 5th overall) and Rodney Polen.

The results and pictures have been posted to our website, as well as the Tom's Misfits Facebook page. Please stop by each site and have a look. A hearty CONGRATULATIONS to ALL contestants - WELL DONE.

The Viper Pit also held an impromptu kids' race, The Youngsters' 100, on our Engleman. At the end of that 100-lapper, we saw Brantley take the flag. Three more youngsters were in quick succession, and they were Zander, Axel, and Penny. Penny was here from Sweden, together with her mother and father. The three of them are related to David Gladwin and his wife, of Tallahassee (Axel's parents).

What a day - meeting new friends, seeing old ones and all of this in conjunction with a slot car race..

I must add a huge note of THANK YOU, to those who sponsored the event by way of providing prizes. I know Tom has already thanked them via his FB page, but we cannot say enough about them.

Difalco Design
Professor Motor
Darrell's Decals
Slot Car Hub (on YouTube, from Australia)

I hope I haven't missed anyone!

Individually, I thank our host, Aaron Scott, for providing a great slot car facility. I also thank Tom Work, who really put in a great deal of time and effort into bringing the event together. I recognize, too, the work of Keith Robertson, who besides being a good racer, is a super guy - he took care of lots of details behind the scenes.

Looking forward, please mark your calendars for the premier South Georgia Retro Racing (SGRR) event, on November 9. We will run F1 and Can Am on the Blue King, and follow with a Stock Car race on the Daytona Ti-oval. Be there!!

I'm thinking that a combined SERRA, SGRR, and GRRR Retro race sometime next year at the Viper Pit would be way cool. :sun_bespectacled:

Had a great time yesterday ( Nov 9) at the first ever SGRR event at the Viper Pit. Great people and racing. The turnout was good. I hope to see more racers next time.

Hopefully Bernie will do a report.
