Coupes on the Aristocrat – 9/17/24

 

Coupes were back in action on the American Aristocrat in this week’s edition of MVH’s Tuesday Night Retro Series. The field was comprised of eight drivers with racing in the 4-on/4-off format, running the outside four lanes first and then moving to the inside four. One racer ran the computer with three marshals (one less than ideal) at the corners.

 

Coupes in Tech:

 

John Weaver was in control from the start, posting the fastest time on each of the eight lanes, as he cruised to an easy victory. At the move to the inside lanes, Dave Panich was running in second place with his 143 laps putting him eight laps behind Weaver and three laps ahead of Cody Pare in third place. In fourth place, Bob Hazelwood was just one lap behind Cody and was the only other racer in contention for the podium.

 

Nine laps back, Joe Yates and Rolly Lapierre Jr. were tied with 130 laps each while Richard Payne, in seventh, was hot on their heels with 129 laps. Rick Pare closed out the field.

 

On the inside lanes, Weaver continued to lead while Bob’s podium challenge didn’t quite pan out. When time ran out, Cody had solidified his claim on third place by putting five laps between himself and Bob. Dave stayed in second place, taking the position with a five lap margin over Cody.

 

The mid-pack racers battled it out for “best of the rest,” with Joe breaking the tie and taking fifth place. Meanwhile, Richard came on in the second half to get past Rolly to take sixth place.

 

Weaver’s 4.171 fastest lap of the night was almost two-tenths quicker than Cody’s next fastest time of 4.322.
