Victor kindly supplied a few MESAC Porsche RSR bodies to some friends to build versions of the original MESAC Porsche RSR slot car (refer to the last picture).  Rick showed us his Porsche RSR build.

Here is my RSR build.  Victor painted the body.  It is one of his color test bodies.  Tire diameter is 7/8" front and rear.

I assembled a simple 4 rail chassis using chassis pieces from the MESAC scrap yard.  The chassis wheelbase is short, and the chassis width is narrow.
The motor is Champion.  The motor brushes and springs are now Mura.  The shunted Champion motor brushes were way too hard and the springs too stiff.
Wheels and tires are H&R with fish foam rear tires.

The car is geared 7-34 with a Cox spur gear.

Chassis has a center pivot front end.  The motor is a mild Champion C-can with white dot magnets.
Time for a test drive.

Center lock wheel inserts.

Victor painted the bodies.

I added some detail with semi flat black acrylic paint.

Fabricated aluminum roll cage.  PLN is driving.

Nice build & recreation Rod! It looks authentic.  Is that second body a spare or for a second car? Your Champion can appears to be a version 2 with the screw tabs holding on the endbell. Previously, those were cut off by the factory & we used Mura endbells on them. We usually turned down or ground the can sides thinner also. Let us know how this car runs for you.

Good Champion motor information Bill.  The second body is a spare.  I will let everyone know how the car runs.

MESAC could change track layouts by sliding in sections of track to change the layout.  I ran this short wheelbase Porsche, and this car would have been great on MESAC's twisty layouts.  It is a fun car to drive.

The car handles great and changes direction very fast.  The power is good.  The car could use a little more brakes.  I changed out the stiff motor springs to mild ones to cut down on the amp draw, which also resulted in a little less brakes.  The H&R fish foam tires work great with almost no track glue.

As predicted, the Corvette is better suited to larger track layouts.

Datsun 240ZG.  The chassis was made with junk 888 chassis parts.  Early Mura C-can motor.

Clean looking car Rod. Is that 'Z' body a vintage body? I owned a 280Z from '75-'79. It was a fun car to drive on the street. Good use of an '888' chassis. I have one of the partially apart. It didn't pass muster as a wing car. I'll have to find a narrow body & reassemble it.

Thanks Bill.  I got the Datsun body at a hobby shop in Canada while on vacation decades ago.  The body is made out of Lexan.  I was never able to make the "888"s work back in the day.  My group 20 cars were faster.
