A bit late reporting this but over this weekend of November a very Long standing (since I was a teenager), National event, being the "Geoghegan Trophy"  has been held .

Trophy_crop_2.jpg

The trophy was established way back in the late 60's / early 70's and was begun through an association with one of Australia's best known Sedan car drivers, being Ian 'Pete' Geoghegan.

https://en.wikipedia...i/Ian_Geoghegan

The racing was at a relatively new and great Slot racing facility, Seagulls Slotcar Group put together by Kim Axton, perhaps amazingly, at the Seagulls Club in Tweed Heads in glorious northern NSW in Australia (just near the Queensland border.

The classes over the weekend comprised;

Historic:
Plafit Fox 4 motor with Plafit 1700# chassis components and body list as specified in Galleries on the Ace Hobbies on the website (basically Can Am and Group type Sportscars/Le Mans endurance cars of the Late 60's to 70's era).
Exception is gearing: 10/29 or 12/35 only.

Aussie Retro:
Plafit Cheetah 4 motor, open gearing, ballraces permitted front and rear.
Approved traditional inline scratch build of brass, wire and steel. Can Am body.

Flexi Sedan:
Ralph Thorne Honda NSX 7 or 10 thou.
Plafit Cheetah 4 motor.
Open gearing, oilites only.
Traditional two piece steel flexi chassis, Jk C21, Champion Turbo Flex and Parma Flexi.

LMP Brushless:
JK LMP body, JK Aeolos chassis only, oilites only.
KC 3.2 motor, Approved ESC boards are Westrock, DoSlot and Plus 1.
14/34 gearing.
Max rear tyre diameter 720.

GTP:
Any steel Flexi type chassis.
Ballraces permitted, Jk Hawk 9 motor.
Any GTP body with no additional air control.

Kim also runs a system like we used to run way back, with his new, local and visiting racers, being a Pro / Am system, allowing less experienced racers to gain experience amongst other drivers of similar skill and have separate Awards etc. It has proven to work very well in developing the local club talent.

I have tried to put links up on our local ASCRA site, with live streaming / video of many of the races provided by Mike Dixon of Show Us Ya Slotz

The classes to be raced are detailed here: https://ascra.au/viewtopic.php?t=1917

With Videos and Streaming links for the various classes here: https://ascra.au/viewforum.php?f=43

I'll try and put up more details as they come to hand   :)

Hey Dave, everyone's a bit 'Shell-Shocked' after the weekend but Fox is going to send me what he has.

I'm hoping to put some stuff up here as well as on our local forum (obviously), so Hang in there and I'll get the Hawk 9 results,.. I might be wrong but I think 'Roundy' creamed everyone by 4 laps or more.

Stay Tuned, Don't touch that Dial,..  :D

I think,.. lol, sadly Kim's bespoke Race control program doesn't Store the race sheets and the only photo I was sent of the results was rather poor.

Hopefully, when Fox gets home he can send me better copies.

Thanks for the photos stoo! I believe it was Mark Fox who 5 or 6 years ago was building some fine-looking retro chassis. Is retro racing still a popular class down under?

Yes Bill, that was and IS the same Mark (or 'Fox' / 'Foxy' as he is known,.. I'm one of the very few who call him Mark lol) and Yes Retro IS still one the most popular classes 'Downunder'  :D

We first met in 1970 at MY very first proper local association race, where I actually beat him, (one of the few times in my life lol) I have so many 2nd & 3rd place trophies where invariably, Mark probably has the 1st placed one !!,..  :laugh2:

An arguably Unique (at the time) and revolutionary Chassis by Mark, way back in 1976 !!
