Can-Am on the Royal – 11/5/24
Seven Can-Am racers headed over to the American Royal in this week’s MVH Tuesday Night Retro race. The field ran on the four outer lanes and then moved to the four inner lanes over fourteen heats.
Cody Pare took the early lead and never looked back, taking a nineteen-lap lead into the change over from the outside to inside lanes. Bob Hazelwood was running in second with 173 laps to John Esposito’s 172 laps while Joe Yates was in the hunt with 169 laps. Five laps back, Rolly Lapierre Jr. and Richard Payne were running even with 164 laps each while Dan Savage closed out the field with 151 laps.
Things changed after the move to the inside lanes as Cody opened his lead over Bob to take the win by a walloping 35 laps. Espo fell off the pace with Joe getting past him to take the final podium step by a four-lap margin. Rolly didn’t finish, as he dropped out, allowing Richard and Dan to move up in the standings.
Cody logged the fastest lap on the night with a blistering 3.439 on the orange lane, over 2/10ths faster than the next fastest lap which belonged to Bob who posted a 4.680.
