Coupes on the Aristocrat – 11/19/24
The MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series headed to the American Aristocrat this week to run Coupes. Eight racers participated, running in the 4-on/4-off format over a total of 16 heats. One racer ran the computer with three marshals at the corners.
Coupes in Tech:
Cody Pare had the car (and was the driver) to beat as he jumped out to the early lead on his way to taking the win and posting the fastest lap of the night on each of the Aristocrat’s eight lanes. By the move from the outside to the inside lanes, Cody’s 150 laps gave him an eleven-lap lead over second place runner Dave Panich. Bob Hazelwood was in third place with 136 laps and leading four other racers who were all within five laps of him. In fourth place, Rolly Lapierre was trailing by two laps and was running just one lap ahead of Richard Payne, while Rick Pare was one lap behind Richard. Joe Yates’ 131 laps put him in seventh place. Dan Savage closed out the field.
After the move to the inside lanes, Cody opened his lead over Dave, winning the race by a 28-lap margin. Bob held on to third to close out the podium, still three laps behind Dave. Rolly struggled with the faster inside lanes, allowing both Richard and Rick to get past him as he fell from fourth place to sixth.
To give you an idea of how fast Cody’s car was, his fastest lap on black was a 4.155, faster than the existing NERR record for quali time (4.178) and race time (4.203). Plus, he was also almost 3/10ths faster than the next fastest racer.
