Stock Cars on the Figure 8 – 12/03/24

 

This week the MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series featured Stock Cars on the Figure 8. Seven racers ran in the 4-on/3-off format, racing on the outside four lanes and then moving to the inside four over fourteen heats. Three marshals worked the corners with one of them operating the track-call remote.

 

John Weaver took the early lead and was ahead of second-place runner Cody Pare by ten laps (211 to 201) by the mid-point of the race. Just one lap back, Bob Hazelwood was in third place while Richard Payne and Dave Panich were tied for fourth with 198 laps each. Rolly Lapierre Jr. trailed by another two laps with 196 while John Esposito closed out the field with 190.

 

Even though there were only seven racers, there was plenty of action. Bob had a guide disintegrate, causing a minor delay for repairs, and there were a few other setbacks due to either bad driving or riders. Richard Payne suffered the worst and had to complete the race with Rolly’s car as his was out of commission (and Rolly had run all eight of his heats).

 

The inside lanes reshuffled the running order too. Bob got by Cody to finish in second place as Weaver took the win by an eleven-lap margin. The tie between Richard and Dave was settled in Dave’s favor as he finished in fourth, two laps behind Cody. Rolly got around Richard to take fifth, three laps behind Dave, leaving Richard in sixth, seven laps off the pace. Espo closed out the field.  

 

Weaver logged the fastest lap of the night with a 3.234 on orange while Cody had the second fastest time with a 3.288 on green. Bob was the only other driver to break the 3.3 second mark, logging a 3.297 on black.
