In the early 1980s, Koford Kubes were just becoming available and they were taking over G27 and up. Up to then and with some overlap, it was highly modified C like cans with the back behind the magnets cut out and lightened around the bearing as much as possible. Cut down Elephant Ears with modified Mura Bus Bars were all the rage. The full-length ceramic magnets were zapped to the max. This was state of the art for INT15 and similar for G27. This one has a INT15 arm with a 12t pinion and oilites.

This was built by Paul Pfeiffer and sold to a friend of mine. It had all the known tricks and tips that the pros knew. I cleaned it up with electronics cleaner, Voodoo Drops on the com, and oiled it up. It fired right up and after a couple of volt jolts, it settled in real nice at 5v 0.5A smooth as can be. I ran it up to 12v a couple of times and it sang real nice, sounded good. This one had not been run in 40 years, sounded as good as the day it was built!

This was when Space Coast Raceway was the center of the FL slot car universe and sent a good contingent to all the major races. We built really good motors locally that were at least competitively nationally. I learned a lot going to the big races. TQ'd at the Cincinnati Pepsi Race with one very similar that I built. Held the Orange Track qual record for years. Lots of good memories with these. There is a G27 motor somewhere at my friends house that Paul built too, if we can find it, will post it. too.

Are you sure this is a Koford cube? The purple endbell looks very Camen, and Paul Pfeiffer gives his history as working for Camen before he started Alpha Products.

There was never a Koford Kube.

The original small cobalt magnet motor was called the Micro.

It had small octagon shaped holes, top and bottom.

It was followed by the Feather, with a can that mimicked what Pro's were doing with cutting up the Micro.

It was followed by the Feather II which was even lighter and was the first motor with flathead screws holding the endbell on.

There was a Camen Cube, a joint project by Camen, Trinity and possibly Proslot.

It was basically a slightly larger copy of Koford's  Micro, but with rectangular top and bottom holes.

No, this is not a Koford. The endbell and can is Camen I think. I used the Kube example as the C can based by Camen et al were on the way out for G27 and up. They hung on a while for INT 15 until the straps came out. It was a time of transition. The first straps were a hammered out C can cut up so that the dimensions were met with extensions. This was at a Midwest USRA race. Paul as tech inspector was not amused!

Thanks Mike. I was going on what I was told from the FL guys that went to the Nats in SC, ! was home recovering from retina detachment #1. The commercial transition to cobalts was starting to the masses and all the C can stuff was relegated to INT 15.
