Coupes on the Aristocrat – 12/17/24
For the final race of 2024 the MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series headed to the American Aristocrat to run Coupes. A field of eight racers ran in the 4-on/4-off format over a total of 16 heats. One racer ran the computer with three marshals at the corners.
Coupes in Tech:
It seemed like there were a lot of reliability issues for multiple drivers, but they mostly focused on Cody Pare. Regardless, Cody managed to build an eight-lap lead at the mid-point in the race. Is second place, Rob Hayes was running one lap ahead of Woody Hazelwood, while in fourth place and trailing Woody by three laps, Rolly Lapierre Jr. had a one lap lead over Dave Panich. In sixth place, Richard Payne was six laps ahead of Rick Pare who was another six laps up on Joe Yates.
After the move to the inside lanes, Woody found some speed and managed to get past Rob to move into second place, but Cody maintained his first-half eight-lap lead to take the win. Rob had to settle for third, trailing Woody by two, while Rolly and Dave ended up on the same lap and in the same order as the first half, separated by sections. The order at the back of the field didn’t change from the first half.
Cody posted the fastest lap on seven of the eight lanes, including the fastest lap of the night, a 4.209 on purple. Dave had the second fastest lap with a 4.270 on black while Rob was the only other car in the 4.2s with a 4.296 on purple.
Finishing order, laps completed, best lap time, best lap lane:
- Cody Pare 308/8 4.209 PU
- Bob Hazelwood 300/11 4.311 YL
- Rob Hayes 298/15 4.296 PU
- Rolly Lpierre Jr. 290/23 4.463 PU
- Dave Panich 290/3 4.270 BK
- Richard Payne 280/5 4.402 YL
- Rick Pare 276/20 4.572 PU
- Joe Yates 259/19 4.797 YL
2024 Year in Review:
Total Races Are Up: The MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series ran a total of 46 races this season, four more than in 2023.
Coupes Most Popular Class: Once again, the GT Coupe class led the way, with a total of 15 races, while F-1 was second with 12 races. We ran Can-Am 10 times and Stock Cars 9.
Royal is Most Visited Track: The most popular track was the American Royal, hosting 12 races while we ran on the Aristocrat 11 times. There were 10 races on the King, 9 on the Figure 8 and 4 on the Sovereign. We raced on the Sovereign for the first time since May 7, 2019, a hiatus of over five years!
Most Frequent Class/Track Combination: Coupes ran the Aristocrat a total of 11 times while F-1 ran on the King 9. At 6 races, Stock Cars on the Royal was the third most popular class/track combo.
What We Missed: Stock Cars didn’t race on the Aristocrat or Sovereign, Can-Am never visited the King or the Aristocrat, Coupes avoided the King, Sovereign and the Royal, and, of course, we didn’t run F-1 on the Figure 8, Sovereign or Aristocrat.
2025 promises another year of fun times on Tuesday evenings. Hope to see you at MVH!
