Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Superb video. I have not seen this one.
I did not know Bob Bondurant, but met him several times. Talked to him a couple times. I came away thinking I had never met a driver so focused on every aspect of the race. And, of course, he was the founder of the premiere American competition driver's school. A diploma from that school was as good as a ticket to a seat on the best known teams.
But I guess my best memory of him was at the first Chicago Historic Races event. Rollie Stefenson had brought his FIA Cobra, one of the Shelby Team cars, which Bob had driven in many races. Bob was the featured speaker for the Saturday night banquet. Rollie let Bob take some laps in the car. He overshot the entrance to the carousel at R/A and backed the car into the Armco at a pretty good speed. There isn't a lot of structure behind the rear axle of a Cobra, so he flattened it pretty good. I talked to Rollie later in the year and he told me Bob paid for all the repairs.
