Ten to fifteen years ago, I built a rather simple chassis for a Ferrari 512. I utilized a Deathstar for power. Although the slot car looked ok, I was never really happy with its performance. Over the holidays, I took a good look at the chassis and decided a rebuild was in order. It was also time to replace the old with a newer Deathstar. Below are images of the chassis and finished slot car.
The rebuild yielded a bump in performance and improved the consistency of the car. The Ferrari will make its debut in our Can-Am/Gran Sport race to be held at Electron Raceway on 1/14/25. Competition will include several Ford GT40s as well as Can-Am cars of the era. Will this be a longer-term Ford v Ferrari saga? Looking at the performance of cars in the class, I believe that the Ferrari will be in the fight. Stay tuned for results.
In the interim, I will post a link to a YouTube video featuring the 512 running several solo laps. This will appear in the first reply below. It may take some time to post the video, so if it does not appear immediately, please check back later.
