To All GRRR Racers:

Here are the changes that I am considering to implement for the 2025 GRRR racing season. Comments are welcome.

NOTE: I will update this first post if something changes so you won't have to look at all of the posts to to try to figure out what will change for the 2025 racing season.

1. No drivers championships/points. We have so few racers that attend each race that the overall winners are really just the guys that show up for each race.  In my opinion this means little from the standpoint of who is the best racer, so I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to keep those records and order awards on this basis.

2. Require a minimum of 8 pre-race sign-ups no later than 5 days in advance on Slot Blog, or at least a PM message, text, or phone call to me to let me know how many racers we will have at a race.   If I don't get at least 8 racers pre-signed up I will cancel the race.

3. With only eight racers we can use the middle 6 lanes (4 minutes per lane) in a round robin format for the first two races and with a couple of ghosts we should be able to have at least three turn marshals at all times.  For the last race (Can-Am) we could still have qualifying and A and B mains.  This would shorten the race day schedule from our previous 6 races to now 4 races total.  This will allow the out-of-town guys to get home at a much earlier time but still get in 3 full (24 minutes) classes of racing.

The first 2 suggestion make sense. Keep the pricing the same, regardless of end of year points. We need tracks to race on.

I'm not a fan of 6 lane racing after traveling 2-3 hours to race. I understand we need marshals but I think we need to figure something else out.

If you run 6 lanes what about extending the heats to 4 minutes?  Same run time as running eight 3 minute heats.

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Brandon:

Good point on the price thing, it would only be a couple of bucks anyway, for sure the tracks need the money to stay open.

I really don't see the down side to running the middle six lanes, especially if it allows us to have enough turn marshals.

As for "figuring something out" the six lane thing was the best I could do, but I'm open to suggestions.

Dom:

Good Idea, I'm all for giving the racers the full 24 minutes of race time.   Thanks!

I enjoy the gutters. They can make or break the race. It will definitely help save the chassis's from big hits.

But longer heats would make up the difference.

Consider this pattern - 4 racers start the race on white, green, yellow and purple.  Every other sit-out is a dummy racer.  Every heat will have 4 racers and they will ALWAYS be either next to each other, or driving a gutter lane with no one next to them.  So you would have racers on:

Heat 1 - white, green, yellow purple

Heat 2 - red, orange, blue, black

Heat 3 - white, green, yellow, purple

Heat 4 - red, orange, blue, black

etc.

Yes, it can extend the day, but this structure is (in my opinion) the most fair to the racers and still gets in the full 24 minutes of racing.

Run an A and B main for each class and all 8 lanes.  If you start on time, tech on time, you will get done early.  Atlanta retro runs 4 classes close, moves the program along

Im not a fan of 6 lanes either. If this is the case I will NOT be attending any grr races this year. The way it was before was fine. It wasnt broken why change it? Its not just Jays thoughts, its the racers

In fact Brian is correct that these were just my ideas and why I indicated that this was all tentative.  It looks like we are going to have great crowd at the first GRRR race at P1 and as a group we will be able to figure out how we want to run the races this year and if we want to maintain championships for each class..

Most of these ideas were due to the low number of retro racers we had been seeing at last years races.  In fact if we can get 12-14 racer we may be able to have a race at Daytona, which as most of you know is an awesome track.
