Early slot racing speed parts and tooling manufacturer Tim LaGanke has passed.  As seen on an HO racing Facebook page.

The “LaGanke Crank” was a staple for the serious armature rewinder back in the days when early slot racers rewound their own.

I met him decades later at a vintage car show in Cincinnati, when vintage cars were one of his passions.

One interesting guy, as are many slot racers I have crossed paths with over the years.

I will have to dig my LaGanke Crank out of wherever it is hiding.

Tim actually joined Soltblog in 2012, but sadly only made a single introductory post at that time and never posted again. His memories would have made a great addition to the history of the hobby here IMO.

"When an old man dies, a library burns to the ground" is said to be an old African proverb. Regardless of the origin, it is absolutely true.

If anyone spots an obituary for Tim, please point me to it.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Years ago at my British car shop, Tim stopped in one day and was working on a Porsche (model?) replica and bought a pair of seats for it. He stopped back one day with it complete, handed me the keys, and let me take it for a drive.

Great guy.

There was a brass handling pan for the T-Jet, motor brushes, and, for a time, rewound T-Jet armatures, a truly coveted item.

I had one of his rewinding rigs, used it two or three times, but I did not have the patience to do more. I may still have one of those arms.

Tim LaGanke, and Richard Harrison (The Hobby House) were the first people I knew about who were committed

to making T-Jets into racecars. Deeply grateful for them both.

RIP, Tim.
