Electric Dreams has a new track. 

 

We tried our best to keep it a surprise, but someone walked in when the doors were open, saw it, and now everyone knows. The cat is out of the bag – a big cat, by the way. The amazing ex-Buena Park Raceway Flat Track will be installed in El Segundo. 

 

We’re excited to share this news. We’ll introduce new classes and open the house for the Retro guys and the Hardbody group. 

 

This legendary track was built in 1992 by Hasse Nilsson, ordered by Spencer Allen from Hot Slots. Here’s the history that I could track down with the help of Ian, Herman, and Paul Gawronski:

 

1992 - 1995 - Hot Slots - Pleasant Hill, CA 

1995 - 1999 - City of Hesperia Recreation and Park District 

2000 - 2007 - Chico Slot Car Racing Club - Chico, CA 

2007 - 2023 - Buena Park Raceway - Buena Park, CA 

2023 - 2024 - Storage

2025 - Electric Dreams - El Segundo, CA

 

Bob Scott is coming to town as we speak. The track will receive the overhaul it deserves – all new braid and paint. Larry Pellegrini is coming from the East Coast to wire and power it. We’ll have eight dedicated 45A power supplies, one per lane. The track will be renovated with a brand new LapMaster, and a display system will be unlike anything you've seen before. Cameras will cover all angles to broadcast the races. We’ve been working a lot, but we’re excited. 

 

For the Cunningham Raceway, new braids. Non-magnetic this time, which will bring a challenge for 2025. 

 

In addition, we are doing a massive inventory count and a massive renovation of the store. I hope you guys get excited about this – maybe this is the new golden era. Slot cars are back!

 

I appreciate all the support. We’re preparing a big party for the re-opening on February 1. We are relaunching the famous Model Car Racing Magazine, releasing a new NSR Mosler exclusive for Electric Dreams, and putting out the new rule book (including the classes for our new track) and the racing schedule for 2025.

Many a good time and races on that track. Looks like a good reason for me to get back in the game. I've always liked that track. Thanks Marco and Electric Dreams!

I don't know where you're going to put this track. Did you guys take up space next door? Will there be more parking? During the last big race the racers were parking on the street,wrapped around the block and those streets are marked no parking. Did Electric Dreams get a temporary OK from the city for that event? 

 

El Segundo is supposed to be business-friendly. So many questions!

ED have been able to pull off 1st class events so far --- pretty sure they will have things worked out with the flat track installation

There should be some good competitive races on this track. Many of us have lots of laps on that thing!

Hi Phil! Same building, just a lot of construction and renovation to make the space. The track will be behind the plastic track, where my office used to be. We installed a 600 sq/ft mezzanine too. The parking is not an issue, we were granted by the city, clear street parking for weekends. That happened before the installation of the 1/32 wooden track. The city was very helpfull, we've been hosting events with more than 400 people here with no problem. If you are bringing heavy boxes, you can unload on the driveway, and park out there. Hope to see you more often this year.
