Can-Am on the Figure 8 – 1/7/25

 

 

To kick off the 2025 edition of MVH’s Tuesday Night Retro Series we were scheduled to run Can-Am on the Sovereign. However, a diminished turnout of just six racers wasn’t going to work on the “Purple Mile” where a minimum of four marshals is required. Thus, we headed to the Figure 8 to run with four cars on and just two marshals. Racing was on the four outside lanes first then the field moved to the four inside lanes over twelve heats.

 

Once again, Cody Pare was the man to beat, putting 237 laps on the counter by the move to the inside lanes and leading second place by fifteen laps. Racing for the other two podium positions was a bit closer with three racers vying for the two spots. Bob Hazelwood was running second with 222 laps with Dave Panich four laps back in third and Rick Pare five more laps back in fourth. At 201 laps, Richard Payne was running fifth and one lap up on Dan Savage.

 

The move to the inside lanes didn’t change the running order as Cody cruised to victory with a 23-lap cushion. Bob held on to second place as Dave closed the gap to two but couldn’t get any closer. Rick’s car gave up the ghost and he fell off the pace but was able to hold onto fourth, finishing 26 laps off the podium and eleven laps ahead of Richard. Richard finished fifth while Dan closed out the field.

 

Cody also posted the fastest lap of the night with a 2.860 on orange. Dave was the only other driver to break the three-second barrier with a 2.961 on black. Half the field posted their fastest laps on a gutter lane with Rick and Dave going rapidly on black while Bob had his best effort on red.
