Can-Am on the Royal – 1/14/25
The Can-Am class headed to the American Royal in this week’s Tuesday Night Retro race at MVH. A limited field of six necessitated we run in the 3-on/3-off format to have adequate marshals. Racing was on the four outside lanes first then we moved to the four inside lanes over a total of sixteen heats.
Cody Pare and Dave Panich were running first and second for the first half of the race with Cody well out in front while the rest of the field was in a close race for position. At the halfway point, Cody was comfortably in the lead by sixteen laps over Dave, 195 to 179. Trailing Dave by a dozen laps, Rolly Lapierre Jr. was in third, one lap ahead of Dan Savage at 166. In fifth place, Joe Yates was two laps behind Dan and one lap up on Richard Payne in sixth.
After the move to the inside lanes Richard Payne turned the wick up, cruising past Joe, Dan and Rolly to claim third place by a four-lap margin over Rolly. Dan finished just one lap behind Rolly while Joe was two laps further back. Cody took the win by 28 laps with Dave staying in second place.
Cody posted the fastest lap of the race with a time of 3.543 on blue. Dave was the only other driver to get into the 3.5s with a 3.598 lap on yellow. Yellow was the fast lane on the night as four of the six racers posted their fastest lap time on yellow.
