Coupes on the Aristocrat – 1/28/25
Predicted snow kept some racers away, so a small field of six racers headed to the American Aristocrat to run Coupes in this week’s MVH Tuesday Night Retro Race. Racing was in the four-on/two-off format over twelve heats. John Esposito didn’t race but helped marshal the turns (Thanks John!) giving us three marshals with one of them running the track call remote. Not ideal, but it worked.
Coupes in Tech:
Early in the race the field sorted itself into two groups; three cars were vying for the podium and three cars were giving chase. Cody Pare had the fastest car and by mid-race was just track sections ahead of Dave Panich, both with 145 laps. In spite of being almost a tenth faster than Dave on the outer lanes, Bob Hazelwood trailed by two as he and Cody were running side-by-side in multiple heats and when they tangled (and they tangled multiple times), Bob got the worst of it. There was a five-lap gap to Rob Hayes in fourth as this week he didn’t have the pace while Dan Savage was ahead of Richard Payne by two laps, 129 to 127.
The faster and shorter inside lanes didn’t treat Cody as well as the others as Dave moved ahead to take the win and Bob caught Cody, finishing on the same lap, but ending up just five track sections short, settling for third. Rob, Dan and Richard all finished in the same order as they were running in the first half of the race.
Cody posted the fastest lap of the night with a 4.184 on purple. Dave was the only other driver in the 4.2s with a 4.193 on yellow.
Finishing order, laps completed, best lap time, best lap lane:
- Dave Panich 304/16 4.193 YL
- Cody Pare 303/6 4.184 PU
- Bob Hazelwood 303/1 4.204 PU
- Rob Hayes 290/2 4.317 BK
- Dan Savage 265/18 4.579 YL
- Richard Payne 258/19 4.708 YL
