I got word just now that Phil Blanke from Westminster, CA, passed away this morning.

Some of you may know him from his posts regarding his slot car motor dyno. He had a long and impressive career in 1:1 car racing, working for Dan Gurney for a time, developing and marketing his own data acquisition system, and working for Motec as a customer rep for their products.

A brilliant and extremely humble man.

May he rest in peace.

Very sad to hear. I was just enquiring about him at the recent Checkpoint.
Alice and I always looked forward to seeing him.

Always had a positive conversation and would remind me of my good points on a bad race days.
We were fortunate to know him.

RIP, Phil.

Phil always took time to talk and check out the motors I had. Very smart man. Thanks, Phil, for taking the time.

RIP, my friend.

Hello,

My name is Jamie Blanke. Phil was my father. Thank you so much for all your kind words about him. It means a lot to me.

He loved slot car racing. It was my favorite activity to do with him. He was also into flying model airplanes which I hated. I would always purposely crash the plane and break them so we could go slot car racing instead. I do not think he ever caught on to the fact that I did it on purpose. I think he thought that I was just really bad at flying.

Slot cars were his first love. The last time I saw him before he was bedridden, he pulled out his first slot car from when he was 13 years old. I had seen it a million times before. He just had to show me that he still had it and it was still in mint condition.

I cannot thank you all enough for being his friends and enjoying his favorite hobby with him. My mother got a kidney transplant a month ago. For that reason I have to be in isolation with her for another two months. I was hoping that maybe in May we could have a slot car race in honor of my father. If you could let me know if that is possible, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,

Jamie Blanke

Jamie,

Distance will prevent me from attending Phil’s memorial, but please accept my deepest condolences for you and the family.

I will very much miss our extended conversations on the phone. Your dad was a great guy.
