I'm putting this here because it might turn out to be an early April Fools on me. A long time vintage racing friend sent me this photo he downloaded off the web. His question was if this was my old "Golfzilla" Corvair powered golf cart. It looks right. Of course there is a lot missing. The body. The wheels are not original. The fronts are similar, but the rears were 15 x 10 inch Mambas. Some rectangular tube tie-ins were added to the upper frame supports, when originally there were two round tube tie-ins spaced farther out towards the ends of those upper supports. There is a lot of structure missing from the rear half of the frame. Some inner rear wheel wells were added. Looks like someone is trying to rebuild it as an oddity to play with.

The back story, is that I originally built it to run at a charity event in conjuction with the first Chicago Historic Races. It was supposed to be a golf cart race around Road America. Joe Marchetti dreamed it up, and announced it at a pre-event meeting held at Como Inn.

I had two questions. Could we bring our own golf carts, and could we make some modifications to them. He agreed, but I'm sure he didn't consider just what kind of carts might show up. Mine started out as a Cushman, but it morphed out as the project progressed. The engine was one I had for a long time. It had been in a friends Volkwagen Combi wheelie machine. I made an adaptor to flop the transaxle upside down so I could mount it with the engine ahead of the trans instead of behind. I kept the Cushman serial number to make it technically legal. This thing was clocked at 125 mph at R/A. And I didn't win. Tied for third.

I think I'l do a search of the internet myself, to see if there is any other info on this thing.
