First, the back story on this MESAC BMW CSL from MESAC member Victor.  Back in the Mid 70's MESAC member Roger Moon had the idea of building two 1/24th scale MESAC-style BMW CSL slot cars.  Roger knew Brian Redman through the BMW car club and was going to give him one of the cars and invite him to run at MESAC.  MESAC closed down around this time, and the slot cars were never finished.  One body was completed, and the other was partially painted.  Roger gave the BMW bodies to Victor.  The painted body was lost (if found, please return it to Victor).  Victor gave me the partially painted body and a pile of parts to build up this car.

The body had about 80% of the stripes painted along with 50-year-old masking tape stuck to it. The old masking tape was removed, and the painted stripes were cleaned up and finished.  Body cracks were repaired, and the wheel wells were straightened out and opened up.  The white paint was brushed on, and a wing was made out of scrap plastic.  Decals are from a Brumos Porsche decal sheet.  The interior is one that Roger Moon completed.  It has seat belts and buckles.

A chassis was made out of used MESAC parts.  I hand-cut the pans to follow the contours of the body.  An early C-can with blue-dots and an NCC20 armature was assembled.  Wheels are Russkit.  Front and rear tires are MESAC.  The Chaparral wheel inserts look similar to the BMW BBS wheels.

I really like the way this car turned out.  The MESAC BMW body is really cool.  The car handles great and is fast.  Handling is neutral and has absolutely no tilting in the turns.  This was amazing considering the tall body.  The NCC20 motor is one of the fastest I have ever built.  Thanks, Victor.

The car is a beauty! Monte would be pleased to see the reuse of one of his drop arms. The paint job on this body is outstanding. Is the completed car going back to Victor for display at his "MESAC Museum"?

Thanks Bill and Don.  Victor was hoping to find an original chassis for the BMWs.  No luck.  The car is not original enough for the "Museum".

The mechanic that mechanically rebuilt my 240Z sent me these pictures of this BMW he worked on.  The BMW was being prepped for a historic car race.

I noticed you were building an anglewinder scale car chassis on an inline drag chassis jig.  :laugh2: Use whatever works. That black BMW looks very cool too!

Lovely build Rodney, that came together really nicely - those wheel inserts are perfect imo.

Sorry to but in Rodney, but the MESAC boys sure liked there saloon cars. I wondered if you or any members recognized this body from the Don Sloan collection.

It's in the line up of MESAC cars yet to be restored.

Martin, I have no idea.  Victor said he will take a look.  What scale?   Any other views?
