when I was a 12-year-old? I gave one of my old .049 powered u-line planes to a neighbor kid for shoveling my sidewalk. School is off today because of the cold. He and his buddies are out on their driveway right now trying to start that plane. It's below zero! It ain't gonna start! They better not come ringing my doorbell for help. I may have created a monster.

Was I this dumb...

Whew. Just wanted a fresh battery for the glow plug. Didn't have one. Hope they go back inside.

I'll bet if they plug the glow plug into the wall the engine will start! (J/K) Maybe Dad's battery in his car if they want the plug to last longer than a mircosecond.

The kid I gave the plane to, and his two buddies, are pretty well behaved. It's the two brothers that live farther up the street I worry about. They each got electric R/C planes for Christmas, and the couple times they were out flying they spent more time crashing them together than anything else. One plane spent some time in the tree in front of my house. When it fell down I had a notion to walk out and pick it up. But the 25 feet from my front door to the tree is a bit far for me to walk these days, so I just let a local kid pick it up and deliver it to the owner.
I think I'd be more worried that our friend Phil might put some kind of notion in their heads.
Geezus, I wish I was 12 again. We had so much fun with go-karts, and mini-bikes, and toys we built ourselves.

I flew control line planes as a kid. I think I have my pit box down in the garage somewhere. Control line planes are still a thing here. This is a marketplace ad with two of them for sale. These look a little bigger than 049 though lol

We found an old Cushman scooter frame like this one, sans motor, clutch etc.
Not much in the way of brakes either. I “borrowed “ the Briggs and Stratton upright 3.5 horse motor from dad’s reel mower and three of us chipped in on a go cart clutch. We got that tank running and wished we’d payed more attention to the brakes when we got towards the bottom of a hill.😂

Brian; Those appear to be AMA contest planes, for competing in stunt flying contests. They would be powered by .19 size motors. $100 each is a darn good price. Those motors would bring that alone at a swap meet. Because they are so maneuverable, they would be a blast to fly.
