Stock Car on the Royal – 2/18/25
For the first time in 2025 the MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series featured Stock Cars as we geared down and headed to the American Royal. Eight racers ran in the 4-on/4-off format, starting on the outside four lanes and then moving to the inside four in a sixteen-heat event.
Rob Hayes and Bob Hazelwood took the early lead, but an ever-improving Dan Savage posted the fastest lap time of the first half with a 4.063 on orange. At the move to the inside lanes, Rob and Bob had both completed 165 laps with Rob just sections ahead. Dave Panich was running in third with 159 laps while Dan trailed by four. Rolly Lapierre Jr. was one lap off Dan’s pace. Richard Payne’s 149 laps put him in sixth with John Esposito trailing by two while John Mills closed out the field with 139 laps.
The inside lanes were good for Bob as he moved ahead of Rob to take the win by two laps. Dave completed the podium, nine laps off Rob’s pace. The remainder of the field finished in the same order they completed the first half of the race with the closest racing between Rolly and Richard who finished separated by just under three laps.
Though he was denied the win, Rob did post the fastest lap and the only sub-4 second lap of the night with a 3.976 on yellow. Yellow was the fast way around the Royal on the night as over half the field posted their fast lap on yellow.
