Is there a way to have an auxiliary button attached to the brake switch on a Difalco Genesis? These newer motors have amazing brakes to a point that I'm turning them down some during a race but I wondered if there is a way to have a button hooked to the esp switch to basically give you an "oh crap brake" just in case someone wrecks in front of you

I understand what you are going for and it is very doable. My problem would be reacting in time to hit the switch before I hit the wreck.
The ESP brake is turned on or off with a switch. A small momentary push button switch wired in parallel with the normal switch would give you what you want if you are quick enough to hit it.

to fire the relay, you need to link the ground wire in this case, I think the shunt to the trigger) with the full brake contact.
I believe this will work, but I echo Eddie's sentiment that it would be difficult, at best, to do it in a timely fashion.
My advice? get a brown pushbutton (brown for "OH CRAP") and wire it in, then test it.
if I weren't racing at the barnburner this weekend, I could rig this up to test, but as it is, I could do it next weekend if you're interested in the results.

If you wire the switch to connect the brake contact you could have the brake and power on at the same time with disastrous results for the controller, and possibly the track.

this is why we test things away from the track first.

I figured it might be as simple as finding a small push button and hooking it up properly but I wanted to ask the smarter guys in the room if my idea was dumb/waste of time/dangerous.
I know getting it done and having the skill/reaction time to use it can be 2 different story's but it's worth a try to save these flimsy bodies we run in flexi racing now

All you do is use the Momentary switch to bypass the brake rheostat setting. I used that for years on oval tracks to avoid being part of "the big one"......
