Can-Am on the Sovereign – 2/25/25
The Can-Am class headed to the 220’ American Sovereign this past week in the MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series. Eight drivers ran in the 4-on/4-off format on the middle four lanes, making for a fairly quick evening or racing, but there was good competition throughout the field.
Seven Can-Am Racers and one Coupe in Tech:
Once again, Cody Pare was turning the fastest laps in practice and had no problem driving to the win by a two-lap margin. The racing behind him was much closer as the remainder of the podium finished on the same lap with Dave Panich edging Bob Hazelwood to take second by seven track sections (each section on the Sovereign is about five feet in length). Fourth and fifth places finished equally close with Rick Pare besting Rolly Lapierre Jr. by 13 track sections. Meanwhile, Richard Payne, running less than a lap behind Rolly, claimed sixth place by 17 track sections over Rob Hayes. George Samuels returned to retro this week but was a bit rusty and closed out the field.
Cody’s 7.133 on blue was the fastest lap of the night while second fastest racer Bob was over a tenth slower with a 7.250. In a rare occurrence, every racer posted their best time on the same lane.
Finishing order, laps completed, best-lap time and best-lap lane:
- Cody Pare 93/33 7.133 BL
- Dave Panich 91/33 7.633 BL
- Bob Hazelwood 91/26 7.250 BL
