The house across the street from me has come on the market. The family has been there 7 years, and we have become pretty good friends. It's a really nice house, somewhat typical of the new houses that have been going up in the neighborhood.

Screenshot 2025-03-02 125408.png

For comparison, my house is 1900 square feet, on a 8900 square foot lot.

2023 property tax; $23,000. With two new referendums, the 2025 tax will be close to $29,000. (mine will be over $10,000 )

It has two gas heating/air conditioning plants. Average monthly gas bill runs about $600, electric bill runs about $450.

Landscaping is $1300/month. ( it's $145/month for me to get just my lawn mowed)

The gym comes fully equipped with Nautilus machines.

I doubt there will be any takers here, so I posted this in jokes. But you never know. It would be nice to have a slot racer right across the street. The basement game room is large enough to fit a 155 foot king track. Right now it has a bowling machine, two pool tables, two foos ball tables, a ping pong table and three commercial size video game machines.

I really hate to see these people leave. They have been good neighbors, a rare commodity these days. But they have already purchased another house.

Dave, I'd buy it but then I'd have you for a neighbor.  :laugh2:  :dance4:

I think I'll just stay here in my 32' x 40' pole barn on 10.7 acres where I can't even see a neighbor.

I only see my neighbors when the deciduous-leafed trees lose their leaves.  :)

And enjoy your easy access to Reds games this summer. I lived in Middletown and worked in Franklin in the early ‘80s where Pete Rose would allegedly meet his bookie.

l'd consider it, after all l'd finally have room to set up my 166' track, but for two reasons first one is that l'd be very suspicious of any HOA that would let a person like me move in and second, l couldn't afford it on my SS.

A house on my street was sold for $1,400,000 and was a total wreck. It was a tear-down. The developer built a 2-story 4300 square foot house with pool and an ADU (additional dwelling unit, something I believe is a California thing. There's a small studio home in the back. It even has its own address and access. The area is R1 zoned.) and it just sold for $3,600,000. I thank Allison for helping to increase the value of the area.

How people are affording these houses is a question I can't seem to wrap my mind around. I asked about the property taxes on a $3.6M house and it's something like $36,000/year! $3K/month just for taxes! While the State of California maybe running a deficit, Los Angeles County is raking it in!

They have an offer of $1,300,000. There has been a long line of house inspectors since it went on the market, so there is plenty of interest.
A house on the next block south has a sold placard on it's for sale sign. It listed for $1,625 000. I'm interested in seeing what it sold for.
