I hand painted this Dino body back in the 60's and never made it into a car until now.  I remember the body as a Dubro but could not find any brand reference for it.  Anyone know what brand this is?  The body is really wide for the time.  The driver/interior is an AB Slot Cars brand.  I used a jail door-style chassis and a Mura A-can motor for this car.  Wheels and wheel inserts are Russkit.  Rear tires are Paul's urethanes.  The Mura motor has "can in a can" magnet shim and magnets, along with a green color epoxied open armature.

The car is really fast and is easy to drive.

Lovely build Rodney and the body is one of my favorite Ferraris ... right up there with the LM250! I also love the built up drop arm which is pure artwork.

It's a Dino show car/prototype, but the slot body is a lot wider than the original! Very practical for our projects.

A little info on the real car.

This photo of my car is from the auction catalogue when it was sold at Retromobile. Still with the crooked right front bumperette. This was a mistake from the factory, when the front bumpers were added to make the car street legal. I wanted to correct it when I repainted the car, but it required moving the mounting boss on the body, and I just wasn't comfortable with my welding abilities to weld a heavy cast aluminum boss into a very thin aluminum body. Now I kind of wonder if that flaw is proof of the car's ancestry. Anyway, the car hammered sold at $1,770,000. It's LeMans history pushed the price up into the stratosphere.

Thanks Dave, good article.

Always liked the slot body, but never really knew much about the real one. It was shown at Retromobile one year and I remember being surprised by how small it was!

It was a small car compared to other Ferraris, like a 330 P 3/4. Keep in mind it is only 2 litres, and although it had it's own class, it was still expected to run with the big dogs. This is a poor photo so I don't know if it will give you any help for comparative size;

Or maybe this one. I was 6 foot even in height. Those are 14 inch wheels, and I count not quite three times that with my calipers. So that is about 40 inches high, same as a GT-40.

And yes, I was a tight fit. The seat was semi-laydown, and my knees had to straddle the steering wheel. Much like a go-Kart.
