Can-Am on the Figure 8 – 3/11/25

This past week’s edition of MVH’s Tuesday Night Retro Series featured the Can-Am class and was held on the Figure 8. Seven racers headed to tech with the race run in the 4-on/3-off format. The four outside lanes were run first then we moved to the four inside lanes.

Cody Pare took the early lead with Dave Panich, Bob “Woody” Hazelwood and Rolly Lapierre Jr. giving chase. With Woody struggling on red and Dave’s motor trying to fall out after two heats, the race for the podium was a three-car event. At the move to the inside lanes, Cody’s 234 lap total was good for a comfortable 17-lap lead over Dave. Woody was two laps back at 217 while Rolly had 216. Richard Payne was in fourth with 208 while Dan Savage was five laps back. George Samuels closed out the field.

Woody found his pace in the second half and got by Dave to move into second. Rolly was having some issues and fell slightly off the pace while Cody was cruising to the win. When time ran out, Cody took the win by 26 laps over Woody. Dave completed the podium, two laps behind Woody. The rest of the field finished in the same order they were running in at the end of the first half

Cody was the only driver to post a sub-3 second lap, which he seemed to do on just about every lane. His best time of the night was on blue, where he turned a 2.906 lap. Woody and Dave had the second fastest times of the night, both with a time of 3.015 seconds. Woody set his fast lap on blue while Dave was fast on purple.

I really like the orientation of Dave's (3rd place) driver in the tech photo.  Watch out, some of fast guys will soon be running *their* drivers upside down, to lower c.g.

It shows right-side up in the post #1 photo. Dave must of had some problems during the race.

It is an optical illusion...looks right side up in the bottom photo but it isn't.
