Stock Cars on the Royal – 3/18/25
For the second time in a month the MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series featured Stock Cars on the American Royal. Seven racers ran in the 4-on/4-off format, starting on the outside four lanes and then moving to the inside four in a fourteen-heat event.
Stock Cars in Tech:
Cody Pare and Bob “Woody” Hazelwood jumped out to an early lead and were in a somewhat tight race as the heats wore on. Dave Panich slotted into third with Rolly Lapierre Jr. and Gil Aubin in the chase.
At the move to the inside lanes Cody had logged 175 laps, giving him a slim two-lap lead over Woody. Dave Panich was running in third, ten laps off Woody’s pace. Rolly and Gil were within striking distance of the podium, each with 158 laps. Richard Payne was running fifth while Rick Pare was having some chassis issues and trailed Richard by three laps.
After the move to the inside lanes, Woody picked up the pace but overdrove, posting faster but fewer laps, while Cody kept his cool and drove to victory with a five-lap cushion. Dave held on to third place, well off second place but six laps ahead of fourth place finisher Rolly. Gil didn’t thrive on the inside lanes as his mid-race tie with Rolly ended up a five-lap deficit when time ran out, putting him in fifth. Richard and Rick, in that order, closed out the field in sixth and seventh.
Along with the win, Cody also posted the fastest lap of the night with a 3.888 on blue. Woody was the only other driver to break the four-second barrier with a 3.916, also on blue.
