Formula 1 on the King – 4/29/25
This week’s MVH Tuesday Night Retro race featured a field of ten racers, F1 cars, and the Gerding King. We were a couple of racers shy of being able to run all eight lanes, so racing was limited to the middle six with four marshals over ten heats.
Cars in Tech:
The fast guys were led by Bob “Woody” Hazelwood but both Rob Hayes and Cody Pare were close, posting times in the 4.1s. Cody encountered early gear issues and missed a part of a heat while Rob just wasn’t having any luck at all but managed to stay within striking distance.
With four sit-outs it took a while for the racing order to come into focus. When it did, there were three contenders for the podium with Woody clearly in the lead, while Rob Hayes and Dave Panich duked it out for the second and third. When the dust settled, Dave took second place, two laps up on Rob and two laps down to Woody.
Rolly Lapierre ran a solid race, finishing in fourth, three laps behind Rob, while Gil Aubin, the fourth-fastest racer of the night, trailed by two and had to settle for fifth. There was a nine lap gap to the rest of the field where Richard Payne led the best of the rest in sixth, four laps up on Bob Blanchette who finished three laps ahead of John Mills. Jason Kessel ended up another nine laps back while Cody closed out the field.
Woody’s 4.095 on orange was the fastest lap of the night with Rob’s 4.131 good for second fastest. Cody had the only other lap in the 4.1s with a 4.193. Orange was the fast way around the King with 70% of the field posting their fastest lap on orange.
