Stock Car on the Figure 8 – 5/13/25
The Stock Car class made its first visit of the year to the Figure 8 this past Tuesday in the MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series. Eight racers ran in the 4-on/4-off format, starting on the outside four lanes and then moving to the inside four in a sixteen-heat event. We had a new racer join us this week as Steven Sacchetti raced for the first time in a retro event.
From the start the field sorted itself into two distinct groups of three with Bob Blanchette suspended in the middle. The first three consisted of Cody Pare, Bob “Woody” Hazelwood and Dave Panich. By the change to the inside lanes Dave had posted 200 laps, good for a two-lap lead over Cody while Woody trailed by one lap. Nine laps back at 188, Bob was running alone and leading the remainder of the field by thirteen laps. The second group of three was led by Jason Kessel with 175 laps, running three laps up on both Richard Paye and Rick Pare who were tied at 172 apiece. Steven was learning the track and off the pace.
Cody thrived on the inside lanes and managed to get by Dave to take the win by six laps while Woody completed the podium, three laps back. In fourth, Bob ended up 21 laps off the podium and exactly 21 laps up on the rest of the field. The three-man race for fifth went to Richard, as Jason struggled with the inside lanes and dropped down to seventh place with Rick passing him for sixth. Steven completed the field.
In addition to winning, Cody also posted the fastest lap of the night with a 3.242 on yellow. Woody and Dave tied for second fastest lap with identical times of 3.397.
