What thread size is used on the guide?

The US size is 10/32.
There is also a similar metric size.

10/32 is 7.94mm so maybe a 8mm nut is close enough .

Over the years I've come across both 8 & 9 mm guide nuts, so I'd say yes to 8 mm. Not sure what thread size this is in metric, but the guide shank is 3/16 (.188"), 4.78 mm if I converted correctly.

If it is metric you would need the thread pitch also besides the 8mm size.

For metric guides, like red fox or cahoza, use an m5 nut with .8mm thread size.
You'd think we could all standardize in our hobby. You know, make life simpler.

That M5 it was as my friend Jukka Vatanen (RIP) sent those Norwegian brass nuts to Jan Limpach around 1972 which then were packed and sold by Parma...
