Formula 1 on the King – 6/3/25
F1 cars on the Gerding King were featured in this week’s MVH Tuesday night Retro race with nine racers heading to tech. The race director determined we’d run the middle six lanes with three marshals over nine heats.
Cars in tech:
The night started in a positive direction as Cody couldn’t make the race, so we all moved up a place. The fast guys were led by Bob “Woody” Hazelwood and Rob Hayes while Bobby Blanchette and Dave Panich were in the chase for the podium. John Esposito and Dan Savage were putting up decent times but were unable to stay in the slot, pushing them back in the standings. With Jason Kessel and Steven Sacchetti still learning the track and combined with Espo and Dan’s struggles, there were quite a few track calls throughout the event.
As racers rotated in and finished their six heats Woody was clearly in the lead. Bobby had some mechanical difficulties and had to resort to a back-up car, taking him out of contention while Dave’s car mysteriously sped up in the final two heats, but too late for him to challenge Rob.
When time ran out, Woody took the win by a four-lap margin over Rob. Dave ended up six laps off Rob’s pace while Bobby squeezed into fourth place, less than a lap ahead of Espo. Five laps in arrears, Dan finished sixth, three laps up on Richard Payne. Jason and Steven closed out the field.
Woody’s 4.186 on White was matched by Dave’s 4.186 on green to take fast-lap-of-the-night honors. Rob had the second fastest time, a 4.247 on yellow, and the only time posted in the 4.2s.
