Stock Cars on the Royal – 6/24/25
Stock Cars were up on the American Royal at this week’s MVH Tuesday Night Retro race. Nine racers ran in the 4-on/4-off format, starting on the outside four lanes and then moving to the inside four in an eighteen-heat event.
Ray Lee was finally able to join us for a Tuesday night race this summer and at the move to the inside lanes was in the lead with 169 laps. Woody Hazelwood was running in second place with 166 laps, giving him a two-lap lead over Rob Hayes as the three racers vying for the podium were well ahead of the rest of the field.
In fourth place, Joe Yates, with 151 laps, was in a two-car race with Richard Payne who was trailing by three laps. John Esposito and Dan Savage were in a dead heat and tied for sixth place with 144 laps each while Bob Blanchette was one lap back in eighth. George Samuel closed out the field.
Ray continued to lead after the move to the inside lanes, eventually taking the win by four laps over Woody. Rob fell slightly off the pace, completing the podium eight laps behind Woody. The race for fourth between Joe and Richard went Richard’s way as he took the position by two laps over Joe. The tie between Espo and Dan went Dan’s way as he posted 287 laps, one more lap than Espo, but Bob got around both of them to claim sixth with 290 laps.
Ray’s 3.999 lap on orange was the fastest lap of the night. Woody posted a 4.057 on blue while Rob logged a 4.147 on yellow.
