The Doghouse gang gathered June 28 for another fun Saturday of racing. We started with eight racers, which allowed four racers and four turn marshals for each heat. The group...
Front row, L to R: SlowBeas, Eric Prevost, and the long-lost Jay Pittman (It was great to have Jay able to join us for a race. It had been a while, but his trigger finger was still quite nimble.)
Back row, L to R: Bob Arneson, Dr. Bob Feller, Dan Parker, Richard Sylvester, David Erickson
For the June 2025 monthly race, we chose to run IROC cars -- JK Turbo-Flex chassis with mostly common setups. The beauty of the IROC race is that the car stays in its associated-color lane. As a driver finishes one lane, he moves his next car to the spot where he just finished previously.
As we ran, we noticed that a couple of the cars were a bit slower than the others, so we made some adjustments for the second and third races. We ran three races, taking the best two lap totals for each racer. For the third race, however, Bob A and Dr. Bob had to abandon their further racing efforts for other callings in their lives. The remaining six drivers ran the third race.
After the third race, we took the best two of the three to determine placement.
The cars, as always, ran really well and quick (once we made our adjustment). It's hard to say anything bad about the Turbo-Flex. It's solid, takes a de-slot without going wacky and, when set up properly, handles great. (See Cheater's Turbo-Flex tome!) Such is the case with all four of our IROCs.
Of course, we also took a break after the second race to enjoy an exceptional lunch at a nearby restaurant/tavern on Lake Murray.
No decision has been made yet about the July 2025 race. We have so many choices, including retro, Jail Door, Indy cars, GTP, and more. More to come later.
Until then, enjoy your racing. We do!
