Sorry to see this track go – it's a lot of fun.

Yes, I very much appreciate this track. Its build and size and how unique it is to have this in inventory. But after five years, it's not as popular and I can't afford to store it and then bring it back later. I have a roadcourse in storage and will probably turn to that when the time comes.
I've also learned that when I host a race, visitors aren't apt to want to race the Engleman because they have no practice on that track. They want familiar tracks. A King and oval are a dime a dozen so people may complain because they always race the same track but when given the option... they chose to race the same track.
It was a goal to have an Engleman. And I've loved having it. But I have to make a strategic choice as I approach my civilian retirement so it's time to change things around.

I visited Upstate on a weekend this past May when the raceway was hosting a Flexi event on the King. I'm an uncompetitive slot car hobbyist, so I spent a day running on the Engleman. Mr. Brown may remember this as he was attending the race event, and we met. I've some previous experience on a genuine Stan Engleman 185' Altech track at Magnetech Raceway in San Antonio, so the design isn't entirely unfamiliar. I'm also familiar with various hillclimb layouts. I had a great time on this track, it's in very nice condition, and I hope it finds a good new home. I'll miss it at Upstate if it's gone by the time I pass through Spartanburg again, but I'm hoping its new home will be somewhere I can visit in the future.
I find it curious that some people complain about the King being a speed bowl, but then always seem to migrate to one and shun anything else unless there's no other option.
