I may add some meshing over the carbs and I also have to replace the genuine foam tires.

Any information on where such foam tires can be obtained will be welcome.

Note that the Team-Modified Cheetah chassis has the same drop-arm as the one of the Cox Dino. The axle and rear wheels also differ from the more classic magnesium versions, with a 5-40 thread.

Awesome work as normal ;)

Question regarding the fuel caps etc, Do you paint these ?
If so, with what product and process do you use?

Also from the pictures, with the rear tail lights, did you use a resin to fill in the area and painted with a red wash ?

Cheers
:)

Dave,

I also promissed you to show how the roll-bar is made. I will make another one and take pictures very soon.

Meanwhile, concerning your questions:

The chrome parts are new. For the restoration of such a rare kit I decided to use the parts coming from a NOS static kit.

But painting old parts with black Humbrol enamel and then spray Alclad II would also give excellent results.

The way I paint the rear tail lights is described in another topic. I use araldite glue to fill the gaps and, once dry, I paint with clear red.

Jean-Michel, is how you fill in the door & body panel outlines also described in another thread? :)

Yes!

Described by Chris Clark. Somewhere here.

I painted the lines flat dark brown with Humbrol paint, apart from the white zones for the numbers where the line was painted flat grey.

You simply paint and whipe with a cloth with traces of white-spirit, it's not difficult.

The louvers lines have to be painted directly with a thin brush. You can't wipe here so this needs care.

Same for the other black zones or the simili-chrome ones (close to the aluminium foils in the bonnet apertures above the radiator area).

I forgot to take a picture from underneath...

Slotblog_Cheetah_TM_10.jpg

I want to sign this car as I did for the other Cox models (from underneath, on the body), with the date of restoration and date the kit was first released but I do not have the later date when those Team-Modified versions occured.

Was it 1967 ?

On VSRN Online I found a © mention of February 2007 on the building instructions of the Team-Modified chassis for the Chappal 2C. But have all the TM version been launched the same year ?

For your more complete information, here are pictures of a Team-Modified Cheetah in its box which I found through the net some times ago.

Miguel,

I found this picture one year ago and I can't find-out where. I quite remember that the Swap meeting took place in Japan. Great stuff there, we see that the guy also had a Dan Gurney Ford Galaxy Cox to sell.

Now, Miguel, just between you and me :secret: (please, other members: don't look at the picture) have a look at the next cars I will work on ...

On the right, brand new, is the one you sold to me ;)

3x2D_Slotblog.jpg

This will be the first time I work on a new, untouched Cox car (well, OK, the two others have to be restored, though ...). I'm very excited my friend.

I liked the metal headlight covers. Any tips on making those?

Always wanted to do one of those... maybe someday I will not be out bid on ePay... :)

Sometimes one can be lucky: Last year I saw a built-up Team-Modified Cheetah that was sold on ebay for only 200 USD. Less than what we generaly see for the standard version... (May-be people thought it was the wrong chassis...).

And as for me, I recently bought a Team-Modified Lotus to restore for only 114.50 USD !

Of course I could have built a false one, but there were no need to do so with such a price ... :D

These are the genuine chromed plastic parts, with my mix of Epoxy glue + Aluminium powder for the bolts. (I say "my" because I described this in a topic but this idea came from my friend Pierre-Yves Lebeau).

If you have those covers in poor condition, you can cover them with a Baremetal ™ foil.

Another possibility is to paint with an airbrush a coat of Humbrol black enamel and, once dry, two or three coats of Alclad II.

You can also fill the headlight pit with Epoxy mastic (do not forget to engrave a separation line) and paint or cover with Baremetal.

That's what I did for one of my Challman's Lotus 30 (filled with Epoxy mastic and covered with baremetal) and for another Cheetah to come.

Some pictures:

2.jpg

3.jpg

4.jpg

4_et_demi.jpg

It's also possible to form an aluminium part, using the technic of a sheet metal worker (that's how Gerald Wingrove would have done, for sure ;)

Finally, without any answer to my question about the date of first release of the TM version by Cox, I signed the car and indicated "1967" as for the said date.

If wrong, this will be easy to modify.

lovely Cheetah JM - photos look good - funny your going to do 2-D's because that's what I'm working on right now along with others.

Here's one I've started - Monogram 1/24 Ford Pickup. I bought this off ebay. It took 1 day just to get the thing apart. The glue that was used was so good it could only be "cut" into with a sharp knife and I think NASA should be contacted on this stuff - Jesus!. I cut the **** out of myself but I managed to get all apart. Should look nice when it's done. Here's some pic's...

once again, brilliant job on the Cheetah and looking forward to the 2-D cars.

Chris, about 2D, I noticed that you posted a topic some times ago about one and I can see no picture. Same for your 1/32 yellow Cheetah and others (not all, thankfully).

I don't understand why.

Is it because of my brand new MacBook ? (don't say so).

I'm sure your 2D will be achieved before mine. I have several cars to build in parralel (well, the more I think of it, the more I'm sure that you do just the same).

About plastic parts to put apart, I use white-spirit. But when plastic cement was used and used properly, indeed one has no other choice that cut with a knife and restore the parts with epoxy, or cut a little further and glue some polystiren (plasticard).

Now, to revert to your kind compliment on this yellow Cheetah: I wanted to make it "Bosmeck like" ! :dance4: because I find your Cheetah really beautiful.
So I took inspiration on the way you decorated some of your Cheetahs. I hope I achieved it ...

The Cheetah is great mate - I like the way you did the vents and I like the bottom part painted matt black - it gives it a real nice clean finish and shows off the chassis well.

The Bosmeck look?!? Where's the tyre decals? :laugh2: :laugh2:

Regarding the 2-d photos - sometimes I have to shift things around in my bandwidth site and I will lose some pics because I'm running out of meg storage. It's sorted now but there were victims.

here's a 2d I've done you may or may not of seen.

I was thinking of a white 2D. I saw the title of such a topic, and you know that I try to respect the history (ok, not with this yellow one, but I admit that it's fun to do so and this livery is hypperealist as it uses all the genuine Cox decals)

About the decals on the tires to make it more Bosmeck like, quite difficult on foam tires ... :laugh2: (I still have to change them, by the way).

Otherwise ... :D
