Steve Harrington of Raceworld Speedway, Lagrange, GA

Steve has been one of the staunchest supporters of SERRA retro racing since it began, not only as the owner of a raceway on the SERRA schedule but also as a regular racer in our events. Steve is as nice a person and as dedicated a slot racer as we have in SERRA. His sometimes grumpy demeanor very poorly hides a genuine heart of gold.
I ask everyone in the SERRA family to join me in praying for Steve's quick and complete recovery and also to pray for Shirley, Chad, and the rest of the Harrington family in this difficult time.
Please get well soon, Steve!!! We want you back racing with us as soon as possible.
Let me also give all SERRA racers a heads-up that I have asked Shirley to let us know if we need to relocate SERRA #12 which is scheduled for Raceworld later this month. If Shirley indicates this would be helpful, Jay and will hold a pow-wow to determine an alternative location for the March SERRA event. We would cheerfully cancel #12 if necessary, to keep from adding to the Harrington's concerns, but I feel certain we will be able to relocate the race if we need to do so.
I will post here in the SERRA forum once a decision on the March race has been made.

Greg, should Shirley need to postpone their race, why don't we see if Larry would be the alternate in Snellville?

Flashbacks would be our first choice as an alternate, but we need to wait to see what Shirley wants us to do.

From Shirley...
SERRA will honor Steve's request.Steve said NO... it will give him something to shoot for. He wants it to stay scheduled here even if he has to come down and sit and watch ya'll run. They told him to expect to be up and walking the day of his surgery. We expect him to recover quicker having it done laproscopically.
You ought to know who does the work around here anyway... he just plays! Ya'll have a traveling race director now, so I'll be able to be hospitable with everyone and sell parts.

Dad's surgery went OK, but not without a small problem.
They were planning on doing it lathroscopically, but were unable to do so due to some scar tissue buildup.
He now has an 8 inch incision with staples. "How ironic that he used a bunch himself when we rebraided some bad spots going under the bridge week before last."
We are not sure as of yet that the cancer is contained to the section of the colon that was removed. We are still praying that after the test are done on the cancer, that containment will be the notification. And that Dad is now cancer-free.
We look forward to seeing all of you next weekend at the race. Whether Dad races or not he said he will be there to thank all of you who will be there for your prayers.
God Bless all of you that have prayed for Dad.
Thanks a bunch!
Chad
PS: Greg, if you thought he had had a grumpy demeanor at a raceway... you should see him drugged up. LOL!

This is wonderful news for those of us who have raced with Steve, both at Raceworld and at other venues, for many years.Dad is getting better every day. He only has two more scheduled treatments left. He raced both NASCAR and GTP at Warner Robbins. He finished third in NASCAR and fourth in GTP.
And what made the day even more special is that Raceworld Speedway locals swept the top three spots in NASCAR and the top four in GTP in the Amateur division; both classes were won by Eddie Rowland. Included in those were Dad, Eddie Rowland, Speedy Gonzalez, and Lamar McClellan.
We put on a clinic that day. But the fact that dad felt like racing two classes was incredible. I figured on one and he'd sit around the rest of the day. I was wrong and he showed his reaction time is coming around as well.
Chad
Steve, here's hoping you can join us in Snellville on September 19 for SERRA #16.
