I'm always fascinated by the number and variety of slot boxes at big events like the R4.
So here's a little "tour" of the slot box community at the recent R/4. Some I recognize and will ID; others I can't, though if I felt the need I could probably identify a number of them by referencing the car pics. Go for it if you want. And if anyone wants to ID a box, shoot me a PM with the post number and I'll add the name.
Malcolm Lovelace's two-box stack.
Noose's efficient single box.
Ray "Kamenkrazy" Price's pit box. I should have recognized the "Manta Ray" name at the top...
Ron Hershman and Rande Marshall's pit box set-up.
Mike Patterson's historic slot box, which was originally his dad's (camera?) box. Mike says it's way older than he is (and Mike's no spring chicken!)
I'm pretty sure this is Ralph Thorne's pit.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Ken Swanson's empire.
Jack Beer's two-box set-up.
The top box is quite interesting, as it holds just cars and tires.
A classic retro box. I believe this is a genuine Hoffman.
Daren Toman's pit was as impressive as any box at the R4/2. I believe I am correct in reporting that this box is Formica-covered. The quality of workmanship was of the highest order, as is the design.
Be sure to check out the thread on Daren's "slot car hauler", coming soon to a blog near you. It transcends slot cars and enters the realm of modern folk art. Honestly!
