Michael Argetsinger's long-awaited biography of Mark Donohue is scheduled for release the end of this month.
"Mark Donohue: Technical Excellence at Speed" ($39.95) will have its 'official' release at Watkins Glen the weekend of April 24-26 with Author Michael Argetsinger in attendance along with many figures that contributed to Donohue's career, family members, and Publisher David Bull. If you're in the Finger Lakes Region of New York state that weekend, you should definitely stop by.
If not, author Michael Argetsinger has agreed to stop in and sign copies for TMC customers after returning from Watkins Glen. We expect to announce a date and time soon.
Amazingly, 'Technical Excellence at Speed' is the first complete biography of Mark Donohue ever published, although the updated version of 'The Unfair Advantage' ($24.95) provides a complete record of his racing career and a preface by sons Michael and David.
In this book, Argetsinger tells the complete story of this Brown University Mechanical Engineering graduate who combined his knowledge of vehicle dynamics with a great natural talent to become perhaps the most successful driver in an era when multiple championships for sedans, open wheel formula cars and unlimited sports racers brought the greatest road racing drivers on the planet to America to compete.
Argetsinger spent years on this project, interviewing the individuals who witnessed and help shape Donohue's life and career. He also discusses the rapid changes in technology seen in that classic era. The result is this 344 page study (with a Foreword by Roger Penske) of one of the legends of American motor racing history. Priced at just $39.95, we feel the book is destined to become a 'must have' in any racing enthusiast's library.

This reminds me of the day that I went to visit Bob Emott at his home in Madison NJ in probably 1965. Bob used to spend some time at a car/machine shop there that was operated by Dick Dibiase (not sure of spelling). Dick built the Porsche cars that Mark Donohue raced.
At the time, Mark was racing a 356 and he was there at the shop. So I got to hang out with Bob, Dick, and Mark that evening and it is a cool memory. Remember that, Bob?
